I talked to one of the owners at southern motors classic car dealer last night at Multi lakes Friday night cruse and he said he is doing well on selling cars. A lot of over seas buyers. He said the economy is not hurting his business.???? Prices are up. ??

I would guess that prices have leveled off in the last year or so.

The geometric growth from 5 years ago is over.

The big ticket cars seem to have dropped a bit, while the second and third tier cars may have risen slightly, but overall things are holding steady.

If you consider a 5-10% a year increase appreciation steady...

With the dollar being so low. and inflation I cant see prices dropping to much.
The guy from southern motors said he sold 4 cars this year to Denmark.
That's 4 less cars in the USA. Supply and demand. On the other hand I am sure there are a few cars brought back from the dead all the time.(restored)

Yeah, the baby-boomer phenomenon isn't just in the US.

A lot of people in Europe retiring and getting their dream cars.

Old cars should continue to be better than the stock market.

Plus with the dollar being so low, that means that people overseas can get more for their money than they used to. While it sucks our economy is low, it's making us more interesting to a lot of overseas countries.

hence why overseas investors are investing in all sorts of american businesses/goods, when our economy turns around they will make a fortune.

I live around the corner from Southern MOPARS...... Vern is really more into the mopars... The gm cars he has in the showroom are mostly drivers... Still nice, but not show cars. NADA priceguides are pretty accurate and market driven. If you go into SM and talk to them about how they price the cars to sell... they will never tell you the truth, but they fall in the good condition range for the NADA guides. The first time I ran into them, they were still in Pontiac. I asked David Witt to appraise my car (1998) and he offered me $12,000 for my convertible... I wanted an appraisal not an offer for them to buy it. They have sources that redo cars out of the southern dry states and then haul them up here. They make a very good margin on all their cars because they pay very little for them to begin with. Plus they don't deal in documented cars and that is were the BIG $$$ is (and custom pro touring cars too). The fact he has a non-original 68 RS for almost $40,000 tells me that NADA prices are pretty good. Vern is getting very close to asking price for all of his cars, so that is a testiment to the value of classics.

If you have a documented SS with the #'s matching drivetrain, it is going to bring more than a driver that has been re-badged, 6 cylinder changed to an 8.. etc. But as always, you have to find someone willing to pay that amount for it to be worth that amount.

Top Hat John appraised my 69 SS convetible this year at $75,000 but trying to find a buyer at that price is an entirely different problem in itself.

Believe it or not, there are people out there that have no idea what thier car is worth and - don't have the internet - don't have cable to watch Barrett Jackson - when you find that, jump at it. There are too many people out there with a nearly rusted in half 1st gen, completely gutted; still expecting to get $4,000 out of it.

And now... we have the new repop bodies out there too.

Classics will always be classics. I don't see tri-fives dropping any time soon and 1st gen Camaro's are now in that class as well. The prices keep going up every year and american muscle is not found anywhere else in the world... it is a unique era for car culture that will intrique generations to come.
