  • Cross-threaded spark plug in Aluminum Edelbrock Cyl Head

HELP!!! Anyone got any good ideas on how to fix this?? Of course, it is the spark plug under the Master Cylinder against the firewall. I imagin the best thing to do is take the cylinder head off, but I have never done that. Will I be able to reassemble this if I take it off and clean up the threads??

    Comments / direction is appreciated!!

You have to take it to rethread it. If you don't a lot of the shavings will end up in the cylinder if you don't.

Agreed, then just get some new head gaskets and put it back together.

And if you have it one off you might as well spend 20 minutes and put a head gasket on the pass. side too.

Couple of ways you can fix it but the safest way would be to remove the head and see how bad it is....it it's really buggered up you might want to consider a heli-coil.

Thanks for the advise guys. Will I be able to reinstall the cylinder head my self?? I have concerns about being able to reinstall / aligning the pushrods properly. I guess it is more of a nervousness, since I have not dealt with heads before, just the rest of the motor.

Good call on replacing the gasket on pass side as well. keep them the same thickness and compression ratio.

Aligning pushrods? Huh? They just go in and are good to go. It's alot simpler then you think man. The hardest part is adjusting the rockers when you are putting it back together. If you don't trust yourself I'm sure someone on here could come over and give you a hand adjusting them.

If you replace both head gaskets they both have 0 miles. You might as well replace it now while you are this far along then in 50 miles have an old head gasket go out, ya know?
