Corvette will not go away since it's the flagship car and is known worldwide, the Camaro will disappear long before the Corvette will.

thats what i thought but here on this commit its other wise

That's precisely what I was thinking. They've been working to establish the SS nameplate as something special (i.e., dropping it from the Malibu and the rumors of the Corvette SS being the end all of 'Vettes), so I don't think they'll undermine that with the new Camaro

The Corvette is not going anywhere. He worded it wrong. The blue devil is rumor to be called the Corvette SS when it makes into production. But there is also rumors of it being the ZR1 or ZL1. What ever it ends up being called it will be the badest vette ever made!!

In the 1st generation cars the Z28 was considered a better car than an SS. The SS designation did not gain its status until 4th gens.

The only reason the SS was the "top model" in the 4th gens was there was already a Z28 and you couldn't very well shuffle the models up to have the SS be the new mid model and the Z28 be the top model. The 96-97 SS were called Z28 SS anyways to make things even more confusing. In 98 the SS became it's own model, even though the base car was a Z28 with the SS WU8 code added on. As Scott has said numerous times "ANY car can be an SS but ONLY a Camaro can be a Z28!" While no "official" answer has been put out, it's almost certain the Z28 will be the top model.

By "the end all of 'Vettes" I meant the biggest, baddest Corvette they've ever made. You know the phrase, "be all, end all."

? The Z28 was a 302 (trans am racing) The SS you could get in a 396 big block. ? better car depends on what type of racing.

the z28 was still considered the better performer (it also handled and stopped) but really both were packages neither one was considered better or worse

Not to bring up a dead thread, but I would much rather have a 69 Z28 4 speed, then a 69 SS 4 speed. Only other Camaro that tops 69 Z28 is a SYC Super car, or a Copo, with it being the upper level of the Copo cars, all aluminum 427.

I think Z28 may not have the biggest motor, but will still be the top model due to the number produced, options, and handling. The days of SS cars that go in a straight line only are gone, thus any new SS car will be good in the twisties but you half to admit, if the Z06 is a idea of what the Z28 could be...this is going to be interesting. GM no longer applys Z to anything that isnt game changing.
