Brian...that is FUGGIN FUNNY....HA HA HA HA....GREAT comment!

All that aside, I do like the new challenger and the hemi is certainly an incredible engine...but I have to agree with Doug on this one...far too retro...and IMHO, even the new Camaro is cutting it close. I love the lines and the style of the 4th gens, and it was certainly a change from the 3rd gen. The pricing for the new challenger is a bit high, starting at around $31000, in comparison to the mustang...and who knows what the base price of a V8 5th gen will be, hopefully it will start under $30,000!

It does suck that the challenger is beating the camaro to market...BIG TIME!!! I am excited as hell about the new camaro...I hope I stay that way for the next 2 years!!!

I am going to wate and see what the Camaro and Challenger will bring to the power table before I weigh in on this. I am sorry F-body family but I would take the Challenger hands down, I started out a Mopar chick and I still am. I am pumped there will be another round of muscle car wars!

Woot to that! When I first saw the challenger at the auto show I loved that thing, and at the same show when I saw the new maro I was like, eeehh.

But I gave the new maro a second look I began really like it, and when I saw it on the road at the Tech Center last summer I knew I had to have one. I dont care how "modern" it might look, and as far as hp goes.....if it is faster than the van, you know im a happy camper. Besides, doesnt mean it has to stay stock.

Both are badass cars in my opinion and I still can't believe that both are going to be on the road.

The Hemi cars don't have a very big aftermarket. When the new Camaro comes out in 09' or when ever you will be able to have a nice H/C car pretty much the day after if you want. GM performance > Mopar

by the time the new camaro comes out, isnt it going to have the LS3 in it anyway which should kick some major ass, and yes having the ls7 option would really help things out on the camaros ring side

Granted, the Challenger is a nice looking car, but WAY TOO retro for my tastes. I already lived through the "1970 Challenger Era" once and don't really see why we would want to go there again. I wonder where they can take this design in a couple of years when it gets stale (already stale to me)???

Same goes for the Mustang. Way too retro. What will they do next? Mustang II again?

The thing I like about the Camaro Concept, it that it makes you think of a 1st Gen Camaro, without being too retro. Unlike the other two, there's room to refine and enhance this design.

I think the Camaro will be able to hold it's own with an LS2, but I'm really wanting to see an LS7 option in the Camaro. That would be awesome.

But, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and styling is a highly personal thing. I guess that's why we all don't have the exact car here on this forum?
As we've talked and you know my position Doug, that's exactly why I like the Challenger and the Mustang better. I personally think Ford did the Mustang styling perfectly.

And that is exactly why I don't care for the 5th gen, it looks like GM took a rectangle and a first gen and mashed them together. IDK, for me the car just doesn't look right, it doesn't flow well.

I guess the thing about the Camaro that pisses me off the most is that once again GM is last to the game, trying to cash in on the retro trend after everybody else already has and it very well be to late to the game. IMO they should have seen this and been able to realize it and instead of trying to go back, go forward with their styling. Again, I know you've all heard me say this plenty of times, but I just can't shut up yet. I hope it does well, cause if it doesn't then there is no hope for a 6th gen for me

                      yah you get the point

if they dont care about the detail in there show car im gonna hate to see what there production cars look like

See here's the thing Doug. You lived through the 1970 Challenger era. My generation loves these cars and none of them are affordable anymore. Its time for our generation to have our 1970 Challenger year.

The new mustang is one BAMF looking car in my book! Ford needs to learn how to make an engine bigger then 5 liters now.

GM and Ford, GM in particular has always had a problem with holding back because they care too much about what the feds and the tree huggers think. Dodge on the other hand has a history of making a statement. And if history repeat's itself, which I think it will as it usually does, the Challenger is going to put basically anything American in its place and most likely just about anything else that wants to play. If I'm wrong then I will eat my words, but I really dont think thats gonna happen. I have always loved all generations of Camaro/Firebird, until now, the 5th is an imposter in my opinion.

I will admit that I am biased against the new GM, I think the new Camaro as they call it is nothing but a fake and is garbage like pretty much anything else GM is currently producing. The new Challenger WILL be top dog, cause thats the way Dodge wants it.

And as far as our beloved cars standing a chance against the Challenger; I dont think we have a prayer. I think we will all have our ass's handed to us. Except for the few of us who have the knowhow and the money to mod our cars. We are gonna have some big shoes to fill.
I've been away for a bit, so I've missed this debate...but let us jump in with both feet.

                          1. What the hell does Ford have to offer? A $60,000 Mustang with 500 hp? They've been relagated to Subaru WRX SRI territory...300 hp AWD will school anything Ford can make...for half the price...

                          2. Calling the new Camaro garbage is...well...idiocy. You don't like how it looks? Fine...I agree. But performance is a whole 'nother issue. From a performance standpoint, it will not disappoint...regardless of engine. Props to Bob Lutz for that. You don't bring the Camaro back to be a POS. The heritage and following is too demanding.

                          3. Chrysler has been bought out...they're looking for any cost saving measurable they can get. As much as I like the Challenger, they WILL fall short of what a unified and economically healthy GM can bring to the table. The SRT Challenger may make headlines out the gate (the SRTs will be released first), but the big Camaros will run them down.

This is just me personally...but...I expect GM to up the antes on quality, comfort, and performance on all their vehicles across the board.

The other two of the Big 3 are wounded...and GM knows it...and is the healthiest of the bunch to do it.

Time to put the screws in, boys...

The Camaro is one of the screws...

Jeff, I see your point but, Dodge has always been kind of a niche market with their late model sports cars. I dont know who will be outdone though, dodge whipped on the new z06 with their Viper which has even more horsepower.

I think youll see tons of camaros around, just like you do now, with challengers and mustangs filling in their following.

Besides that, I believe the challengers production runs will be limited. Makes me kind of happy actually. Camaros are kind of a dime a dozen as far as how many you see in the enthusiast world (esp LS1 cars). I hope the challengers will stay rare and exotic that way they will maintain their value and collect ability.

The new ZO6 will crush the challenger. They are coming out with a 750hp supercharged ZO6 in the next year or two. The hemi is defiantly talked up more than what it really is. Different/cool concept i guess but chevy will have no problem blowing it out of the water with their ZO6. I'm not worried at all about dodge dominating.

What are you talking about? Challenger is not even on the same level as z06.

Viper already has 600HP btw, 95 more then the z06, so if chevy bumps up to 650HP what makes you think dodge wont go to 700?
