Need help PLEASE!

Ok so for starters, I bought my 2011 1ls at the end of november
it currently has 127k miles
3 weeks ago i had an oil leak repaired. it was a seal around some cap by the oil filter or something and the oil topped off?
im far more familiar with older cars and still not this one yet but thats how they explained it.
easy fix it seemed like and $40 later i had no leak
Now to present day, driving down the express way yesterday the car out of no where made a bunch of horrible noises and just died
no warning no lights no other issues until that point.
I get it towed to the nearest shop and after a day with it they tell me the crank is frozen solid and the engine is seized.
They have no evidence of anything leaking however the oil in the car is 3.5 qts low on oil
They didnt see any other reason without tearing into the block as to why it would have seized
Jim wauldron now has the car as thats where i bought it from and they did the service 3 weeks ago
They are claiming modern engines dont just quit like thatg out of the blue, even if theyre low on oil
Ok maybe not but its my understanding that the shop it was at is pretty reputable. (jakes automotive on opdyke rd.)
SO:
1. what are your thoughts as to my issue?
2. i need help finding an engine incase wauldron refuses responsibility for this
3. do i have any options of a different engine rather than the 3.6, more power not less

Help Help Please im so sqrewed right now. I owe 12k on the car at this point...

I'm not overly familiar with the newer V6s, but that car should have a black box...shouldn't be too difficult to look at the moment before the engine died and see what happened, via sensor readings.

Was there any smoke that you saw? 3.5 quarts is way low, you would've likely noticed a bit of smoke if it was burning it...almost sounds like the didn't add oil back in when the fixed the leak. I mean...3.5 quarts is a lot of oil to go missing.

Question -- how many "short trips" do you make where the engine wouldn't have a chance to fully warm up?

Unfortunately, oil issues plague the 2010 and 2011 v6 Camaros. It's a very common issue and it appears to be exacerbated by making a lot of short trips and not letting the engine fully warm up. When I bought my 2012 Camaro, the v6 section on Camaro5 was predominantly people posting about their engines seizing. Apparently the motor would ingest (read: burn) the oil out and people were losing 2-3 quarts of oil within a week without noticing any blue smoke.

Can you send me your VIN? I'd like to take a look at the warranty work that was done to the car and see if there's any clues to it being worked on before you took ownership of it.

With it being over 100,000 miles I doubt any warranties will cover the engine unfortunately.

I had no smoke or indication of an issue, it literally just all the sudden died. it was the strangest thing.
I will get you the vin when i get home and have access to it
but as far as short trips they really dont happen, i work 30 min from home and my normal weekend trips to see friends are 40 min away other than that the car doesnt really move. Very rarely do i just have to run to the store or something i usually just stop on my way home or to work
and i havent had the oil changed since i bought it ive only put 3400 miles on it since i bought it.

I guess at this point it's up to the dealership to see what happens. Unfortunately like I said it's a common issue.

A 5.3 and whatever trans would be cheap but, I don't believe many of these cars have been swapped yet. The required parts list isn't common like the 4th gens.

It's not the current production model. That's why they ditched the LLT in 2012 and moved to the LFX engine. 2012+ Camaros don't have the oil consumption issue.

I won't even act like I am hip on the 5th gens, but unless you want to invest a bunch of cash, I'd think a replacement 3.6L is your best bet. Otherwise, an LS3. You mentioned owing $12k on it still, and the car has 127k on it...I'd probably just find a junkyard 3.6L if you can and swap it in. You'll be up and running a lot quicker for a lot less cost.

There are bunches of them in junkyards. Anywhere from $1000-3000.
