Last month the difference was only 3,000 - how do they expect to make up a 9,000 margin in two months?

"There are people that buy Chevys just like there are people that buy Fords. The passion for one brand or another is strong," Pipas said. "What we are seeing right now is 10 years of pent-up demand ... rather than some positive indicator about the economy."

I hate to say it, but Mr. Pipas is 100% correct. The "newness" of the Camaro hasn't really wore off yet, whereas with the Mustang the "newness" has subsided.

Yeah, evidently the newness factor has worn off in some places. The dealership my dad works out just traded 3 of their Camaros off to other areas with more demand because they weren't moving anymore.

gar you beat me to it. Pipas hit the nail on the head and its what ive been saying all along. The hoopla is just built up demand, give it a few years and they wont sell very good again.

That's more than likely true - but let's enjoy it while it lasts. It's great that GM's muscle car is #1 right now and helping GM stay alive. It's up to them to keep the "newness" going - IE releasing the convertible model, releasing the Z28 model, redesign, etc.

I'm with ya B....enjoy it now while we can.

I will say though that bringing out a Z-28 will do little for maintaining a high sales level. The convertible may have an impact, but only if they market/price it correctly. Mustang sales have always been higher because it's not the high end versions they........ahhhh never mind I don't need to tell you what you've already heard. LOL

Bottom line is Ford has done a very good job of marketing the Mustang to a different demographic group, and let's hope GM has learned a thing or two from that.

You guys have to remember, the mustang gets all new motors next year. Anyone half way serious is going to wait for the 5.0. Its going to be just like the LT1 vs LS1. Ford is finally getting serious about their motors.

On the contrary it could be a LT1 vs LS1 sales thing too. LS1 was better but sold less.

I agree with the newness factor of the Camaro. If 2/3 of all Camaro's sold have a V8...that tells you something. Its still enthusists driving the market.

It's also worth pointing out that Camaro sales are all without rebates or other discounts. The Moose-tang has been relegated to the #2 position even with the help of sales incentives. Don't know if Chevy will include Camaro in the upcoming year-end Red Tag Sale or not.

Also, with the winter just a few weeks away, it's not surprising that rear wheel drive sports cars are being traded out of the area.

Update, the Mustang outsold the Camaro for the year by about 5,000 cars. This with the Camaro not starting until March or April so no official crown for the Camaro except for winning the month in December again.
