GM already had a Camaro sedan -- it was known as the Pontiac G8.

Exactly...why the hell would they want to (continue to) compete against themselves in the same market?

That, and even the discussion of a four door Camaro is complete blasphemy...

No Sedan Camaros! It would be like making a 4-door Ferrari or riding a 3-wheeled "motorcycle"

        Used to own a Firebird.

Exactly. Doubt it would happen. But if it did, I think I'd be buying a mustang. Be to ashamed I guess .

some idiot journalist asked the question about a camaro sedan.... there was never any credibility to that statement in the first place so why continue to discuss?

            Here is how it works...
Journalist:"Will they come out with a 4x4 camaro?"
GM: "no... i dont think that was ever considered"
Headlines the next day: "GM cancels plans for 4x4 Camaro!"
Internet Forums explode: "What was GM thinking!! I hope they dont come out with one!!! that would be horrible!!!"

Seems to me that Ford was asked the same thing about the Mustang not that long ago. I wonder if either an attempt to leverage a successful brand franchise for our struggling domestic automakers, or the thinking that the easiest way to get performance RWD sedans is to expand the existing RWD coupe/convertible range.

Man... I can believe but I also can't believe that it's going to take until 1st quarter 2011 until they get a convertible competitor for the Mustang.

Part of it is that the engineering budget resources got reallocated to other, higher-volume projects like bringing the Chevy Cruze to the US market. The other part of it is that GM is already selling all the Camaros that it can build, so the product doesn't need any more excitement at the moment. Having a convertible in 2011 as a 2012 model will give it a boost when it's already a couple of years on the market -- and dare I say, it might make for a good 45th Anniversary commemorative edition Camaro?

Yeah, like I said I can believe/understand why with all the financial issues, but at the same time... come on... people who really want a convertible sports car will only have the Mustang to buy.

Yup, I agree with Brian. They need to get this in dealerships ASAP. I heard they are currently running around Oshawa... Which means all the tooling should be made. Why are they not in production?

The Camaro vert won't impact GM's bottom line either financially or average fuel economy-wise like other high-priority products, like the Cruze. The waiting is hard for us enthusiasts, but The General has bigger priorities right now, like stabilizing the ship, meeting new regulations and making money.

This should be to market in the spring/summer of 2010. There is just no reason for it to take that long to come to market.

It NEEDS to be released in the spring. Who would buy a convertible in the third or fourth quarter?
