I will say it seems fair when you consider everything that you get. Would be nice if they offered different levels of mods to help keep the cost down if you wanted to.

your missing cost of labor to do the mods. then profit margin. labor easy 5-6000. so 3300 for profit on mod. (they are a Business)

I was disappointed in the car because I was hoping they would try and be different with the car and make something that the other companies haven't. The price tag is fair for what is done, I was just hoping the car would be more unique other than having a "by berger" badge on it. There are so many companies making camaro packages right now, it would have been nice to see Berger get unique with it. Maybe shave weight out of it even to make it a bit quicker. Do something to set them apart from the others

It's not like 4th gen Bergers are all that innovative or anything, though - remember that (and no offense to those who own them, I'm not saying they're bad cars).

I liked what they did with it, and I'm sure it performs well (it didn't sound all that good, IMO), but it was a relatively attractive package, just nothing super special because 90% of the other Camaro packages are the same thing. I did like the "Berger panel" on the car, and the flat black paint here and there.

I understand what you're saying, Travis.

The only mistake I see with the Berger SS (if you can call it a mistake) is they were not the first ones with a modified 5th Gen. If they were, you would be saying everyone else copied them.

But, you must remember, as a GM/Chevrolet dealership, they are bound by Federal Emissions Laws which severely limits what modifications they can do to a car. If these cars didn't meet the required emissions standards, Berger (or any other dealer, for that matter) could face a $50,000 fine, per car! IN that event, they would likely be forced to go out of business. In it's current state of tune, the car is certified 50 State emissions legal.

Berger is one of the largest (volume wise) GM dealers in the country (usually well within the top 50), so selling 20 hopped up Camaros is not gonna make or break them. They do it because Matt Berger is a genuine car guy that's in a position to do something cool. Berger has been owned by the Berger family since 1925, and have a wonderful history and legacy, so they must be doing something right.

As a loyal Berger customer and friend, I still feel like everyone else really is copying them, since they did 3 years of modified 4th Gens (a little over 200 cars, total), so now everyone that's all of a sudden in the 5th Gen modifying game, may have seen the success Berger had with the 4th Gen cars and decided to give it a go, too.

One major difference though between the 4th Gen cars and the 5th Gen cars is that Berger is doing the modifications, in-house. The 4th Gen cars were a joint venture with GMMG.

(Of Course, after GMMG's success working with Berger (beginning with the 2000 model year), they went on to work with Tom Henry Chevrolet, Carl Black Pontiac and Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet, to name the major partners)

Given all the constraints placed on a dealership by the Federal Government, and trying to be competitive in the market place, I think Berger has done an outstanding job with their package. I only wish I could afford one.

Once you buy the car, there is nothing stopping the owner from taking it to a aftermarket tuner and tweaking the computer. I understand another 100 horse power is available with a (non-emissions legal) tune.

You are paying for "By Berger". Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car, but nothing special really...

Thought this was an interesting quote from the thread (and I actually think the wheels are decent...not great...but passable...):

just for clarification those of yoiu who think those emblems cost 75 bucks and that grille costs like 200 bucks... start thinking again.. i know the guy that came up with that grille and the emblems and they cost way more then that.. the grille i am not so sure about the cost of it however i was going to buy the emblems and use those on my truck and they were over 75 a piece. so with three of them that makes it around 225 and i am sure the grille is prolly around 400 when all said and done.


personally i think the car is a good deal. can i afford it no. but if you add upa ll the modifications done there really isnt that much room left for labor and them making any money on it so i think its a good deal..

and yes you can upgrade to another stage with a few other things and get it tuned and have up to 100 more horsepower. i watched them do it

A similar package from any other tuner is going to cost you $15,000 (or more) more than the Berger SS AND all you will get is a name that someone bought the rights to use. There is no real heritage there.
Can you do something similar on your own for slightly cheaper ...... sure. But lets see which car is worth more in 20 years.

The only thing I would change on the car is the wheels. I'd like to see a 20" TT2 or Cragar.

Yeah - I agree, Ray. Something more "classic", those rims it had were nice, but just didn't fit the overall theme of the car, I didn't think.

I loved the blue bowties, though, and the flat black paint touches.
