that's sweet! Just for clarification in my old thread -- turns out that car is actually a reskinned GTO - not a mustang.

It looks like a kit car. Anyone with a sheetmetal brake and measurements could stamp out that body. I haven't checked out the article yet, but I bet it's on a production chassis from something else.Originally posted by MattODoomQuite amazing they got all the parts for it... they either milked GM into giving them some parts or they had to go through the expense of re-engineering that whole car.
Edit - Yeah, I merged the robot thread into this one. Definetly the same thing. Cool though.Last edited by Insomnya3AM; September 17th, 2006, 03:23 AM.

Damn. You're getting all worked up over this. :thumbsdo:Originally posted by GETGONEI'm glad you think it's so easy to make a steel body. It's NOT and it's EXPENSIVE AS HELL!!! GM gave the bodies to Saleen to build the cars on GTO 04 GTO chassis. A lot of the parts are faked plastic pieces but it'll pass for real when edited in the movie.
I'm just saying that there's other metal craftsman out there besides GM.

ya just the tools alone to make that body out of steel would probably blow away the movie budget..lol i use to make steel stamping tools in a prototype shop made a bunch for all the big 3 each tool cost alot of cash and takes anywere from 6-9 months to make if not longer... times that by the amount of body parts and the cost... wouldnt happen in steel just for a movie..lol unless GM had finnished the tools already and was nice enough to give them a sample... i saw a add at the theater the other day for transformers ... no pictures of cars or anything on it yet..Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. Hand forming a STEEL body takes TONS of time and hours of work to get it just right. I hate people thinking that "Oh they can just whip out a steel body if they've got the measurements". It's taken YEARS for steel 32 Ford bodies to come out with all the correct measurements and to get the stampings right. People like Foose and Ron Covell that hand form bodies take THOUSANDS of hours to build one body. Don't be all cocky thinking they somehow cheated by using fiberglass bodies that GM gave them.
fiberglass easy, haha right

hammer out some steel for a while and make it clean enough were you dont need gallons of filler... sure you wont be dusty but your arm will feel like its gonna fall off...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice.
