i was going to say - the last line of the article was the most telling

on a side note - we are being told right now that there will not be any stock units for the first few months and that they are only building order bank units

^ so basically they are only building cars that have only been sold with a pre-order? So there won't be any sitting in the lots for me to con some salesman into letting me drive?

Not immediately. By the time test-drive season rolls around there should be some in stock, but it makes sense to build the pre-ordered vehicles first. Churn out the ones you KNOW people want, sell them, get your money, and then start building "generic" vehicles to stock and option them later.

Agreeded, although since the GTO was built well ahead of time so that it could be shipped to the USA, they could have delayed release and still successfully fulfilled pre-orders while meeting regular production demands.

Not to mention the GTO hardly sold over 10k and the pre-orders weren't much to speak of either.

you hit the nail on the head... oshawa camaro plant will be working 6 days a week during launch to just try and fill pre orders... i think gm is very smart in there launch time for this vehicle... peopel in the south that get there cars during nice weather will fuel a northern states led spring buying surge.... somewhat smoothing out supply and demand curve for this vehicle... if you launched this car in the spring u'd have many orders not get fulled by fall and alot of pissed off people gettin there cars jsut in time to store for the winter......

              just my thoughts

I dont understand lot supplies anyway. I think if they want to save money, then they shouldnt produce thousands of cars that have no immediate owner. Every dealer should have one example of a base and upscale vehicle and take orders for production. That would save them so much money so they dont have to use such large incentives to move cars.

gm dont build a car unless its been ordered by a dealer... i find it hard to believe at my plant but hey, thats what they tell us at all our meetings... "every car on that line right now has been ordered by a dealer".. when we tried to point out our higher than normal days supply of the crossovers..

who nos gm ses there on the path to sucess now so who cares right?
