Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!
If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us!
And I am would almost bet on the SS being the top model. Not saying I agree with that but why would they rewrite history. I mean the Z28 took the back seat to the IROC-Z and then the SS. I guess you could go even further back to 1973 when the Type-LT package Trumped the Z28 marking off the car. Plus I am sure there was many more examples, but these are just the few I can think of right off the top.
Yeah, I've said it before, I'll say it again.
From a global corporate marketing strategy, I would be extremely surprised to see anything supplant a SS as a top model.

By the vast logic I am seeing in this thread, RS will be the new top model!!!
I dont think anyone here was "unaware" that Z28 took a back seat at some point in time. Z28, IROC, SS, Type LT... whatever else have ALL had their turn.
You can argue SS has "more image" all day long. At the end of the day, I'll listen to what Scott Settlemeire hints at. From the things ive read from say, that looks like HIS "wishlist."

Your right Joel. I forgot that you know everything. Forget I even said anything.
Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't the SS Originally a trim pkg.
And the Z28 was a Real Deal Performance Pkg.

Sorta-kinda-not-really.
The SS was a trim package, but it opened up several more options that were not available anywhere else (i.e. 396 motors).
The Z28 was a conglomerate of options rolled into one RPO number, but the same options (minus the 302 motor) could be had ala cart individually under the SS option.

I agree Jeff
Obviously the 302 lacked the torque punch of the BB, But in terms of a pure thoroughbred Pkg the Z is pretty hard to beat.
I mean so what if it didn't make any torque below 4000 rpm that's why I opted for the 4.88's. lol
You know I'm a Pontiac man at heart but if I was to own any Camaro it would have to be an Original Z28.

yea joel, you are right, the RS is going to be the top model. I like the sound of that as I own an RS, lol.
Im just saying... the fact that Z28 has been dethroned historically means nothing. You have to look at what inspired the car... a first gen.
There are only two feasible possibilities. 1st or 4th gen hierarchy. 1st gen is likely because that is what inspired the concept, and 4th gen is likely because it is thought of as "current" ... even though its really not. You'll never see another IROC-Z again much like you probably wont see a Trans Am.
I dont know what its going to be. But Scott is kind of like... God. I predict that Scott will name it what he thinks it should be named, not whatever a marketing analyst thinks.
Craig hit the nail on the head about the package performer. There is more to the original Z28 than 1/4 mile times. Z28 was setup for business - hardtop only, 4 speed only, and most importanty: the bestsuspension.
If it actually ends up being the way that breakdown says it will be, which is possible - then the Z28 will very much compare to a Z06 or ZR1. And like Clarkson says - the ZO6 is a lot like herpes, its fun to catch but not something you want to live with everyday. Thats a proper Z28 IMO, and something with 525 hp and a manual is likely to fit that description.

Agreed.
I remember that I saw an original 67 Z28 RS at a local mom and pop restoration place on the north side of Lansing...had to be 20 years ago.
Black on black...no extra stripes/spoilers/ornamentation.
And I'm wondering "how many of these 67 Z28 RS did they make?"
Now, we know that of the 602 Z28s made in 67, it couldn't have been many.
Seems they wanted something like $20,000 for it at the time, and I thought they were completely nuts. Why would I want to spend $20K on that, when a new GTA was the same price?
Stupid kid that I was...lol...
A great little history on the 67 Z28s by the way...

I have a lot of respect for Scott, so don't get me wrong, but I don't think Scott has much of anything to do with what the car is named, nor is it his decision anywhere in the process. He might have a lot of influence, but I think there's an entirely different team in charge of the Camaro, and Scott's just a PR person now.

doesnt change the fact that Scott has never led us in the wrong direction. He may not make the final decision but the man does have power. If he wants something, its NOT out of the question. That is all.
Im also going to say that this 525hp supercar... is more appropriate for the ZL1 badge... which is still a Z badge. Z28 could just be a barebones SS with better suspension for all I care, and i think it would be more appropriate even Z28 to me means track racer, SS says loaded (with horsepower & more).

I don't care about the history of the various nameplates......I've already provided that to every man, woman, and child (and men acting like children) at GM...............
I've been called a liar and worse on this board over the names.
Here's my take.......
The SS is a hallowed nameplate.......but it's been placed on many Chevrolets other than Camaro.
Z28 is Camaro......and ONLY Camaro. In fact, you could say that the Z28 is a brand unto itself. ("I drive a Z28"tells the world you drive a Camaro......"I drive an SS" tells the world you drive a Chevrolet.)
Now.....I will continue to defend why we used the SS Moniker in 1996.......and I've been thru it so many times I refuse to do it again.....suffice to say we did it.....I defend it......I'm Fbodfather, ...so SHUT UP!!!! (how's THAT for arrogance????) <evilgrin>
So.......calm down. Enjoy the community.
We'll decide what monikers go on the vehicles.......and you already know which one I think needs to go on the top dog.
One other thing...when the decision is made to build this car, understand that not every model will come out right away. (think C6 Z06.....)
Now......back to our regularly scheduled bickering.........

Reason: meant ZL1 instead of ZR1
maybe z28 will be a version of the 4.6 diesel with a turbo. That would be a tq monster! I just cant wait to see what happens. GM is on a roll with the G8, G8 ST, G8 GXP, Solstice hard top ect. I dont think they will let us down too much.
