  • Spent some time with the 5th gen and Hemi Challenger again

I went to the San Diego International Auto Show. My brother's wife works for a supercar company who works on exotics and some other stuff, so we got employee passes. I mostly sat around the Camaro and Challenger, and can't decide which I like better. I like the roofline of the Challenger and the Hemi, but I like the lines of the Camaro.

Still wish they would make a Firebird out of that Camaro. Not that I'm that biased, I just wish they did to more complete it. I have tons of pics of the Firebird 400s there, and a bunch of goats there too. Jim Wangers' GTO was there too, in case you know of that guy. Nice car he has.

My usual stance is that MOPAR causes cancer...

but I have to admit they did something right with the challenger, that is a beautiful car.

I'll be going for the Camaro personally but Im a bit biased

Chrysler has a great engineering and design team but their manufacturing is for crap.

I.E you look at the main journal of a GM or Ford motor and everything is nice and smooth and well machined, you look at the main journal of a chrysler motor and it looks like it was beat out with a hammer by an angry midget.

On a side note, whoever lincoln has designing their cars now needs to be fired and fired fast.
The Chevy Camaro was built with a single purpose in mind which it executes flawlessly...Going very very fast in a straight line until your hair catches on fire.

I dunno, every time I see side profile shots of the Challenger, it just looks so bland and plain and ugly.

            When you were younger?LOL
The Challenger is a good looking RETRO car, to me it looks like Chip Foose did a number on an old one and thats what it came out as. Looks good, to retro.

              Cody,
If you have time to get upto Escondido(35 minutes from the SD airport) to go Hot Rods & Custom Stuff. They are the ones that did my 68. If you like oldtime Hot Rods, they work an anything!

Camaro? Challenger? I like them both when they come out I guess I will have to head to the Dealerships and test drive them. Love my Camaros but that challenger looks Sweet! But will it run Or is it (M)ade (O)f (P)arts (A)nd (R)ejects.
IMO I just do not think that Dodge can make any car like the GMMG Cars!

O.K., I'm a GM guy through and through, but I've got to give the edge to the Challenger here. And, if you believe the rumors, a Challenger convertible is in the plans for 2010. Can you see a triple black SRT Challenger 'vert with a pistol grip 6-speed?

                  I can.

Problem is that it will be somewhere around $60K.

I've got a poster of the new Camaro hung up at work, and every time I look at it, it just looks like something is missing...something wrong. Too plain. Can't put my finger on it, but it needs something to make it pop.

Funny, that's what I think of the Camaro, lol.

As most of you know I'm not a fan of the 5th Gen, and these pics haven't changed that. While from a drivetrain standpoint they should be badass I just don't like the way it looks. I'll still go drive one to be fair when they come out but as you know I am selling my 99 and when I can buy a newer fbody again it will be a clean 4th gen, not a 5th gen. Now, maybe when the 6th gen comes out it will be better.

I do like the challenger, and I like the charger and magnum too. Wife and I almost bought a magnum. Flame suit on, lol.

Camaro seems to have the nicer, sharper lines that gives it a better look IMO.

Idle thoughts on the above pics...and, yeah, I've stared at the Camaro waaay too much.

                          - Camaro side mirrors just flat out suck...there's no nice way to put it.
                          - Challenger's hood is much better executed...Camaro is too flat.
                          - Ain't it funny how the wheels are almost identical?
                          - Challenger's body lines going down the fender, through the door, and over the quarterpanel are clean and smooth...Camaro looks confused..."Well, let's put a recess here, and some vents there, oh, and let's put a ZO6 lookalike hood vent there".
                          - Moving the Challenger badging to the quarter cleaned up the entire bodyside.
                          - The quad headlamps just look tough.
                          - I think the Camaro would look hot with RS headlamp covers

But does any of this mean that I wouldn't own a Camaro? Nope, I'd still get one if the price is right, as it looks like they're going to price the Challenger to start in the mid 30s for a base model (too high).

To me as it sits, I think I'll go with whatever the better deal is as in which is cheaper. It's a tough decision to me because both cars look so good. I wish Dodge would at least put a brochure out there on info on the Challenger though, the Camaro at least had a poster with the options and specs on the back. The Challenger to me seems like more retro and the Camaro looks more futuristic. It's tough. I like them both equally right now, although I'm not sure to go with retro like usual or future.

for Mopar! I think they have another home run on thier hands with the Challenger.....Chevrolet on the other hand......who knows. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.....if I were putting down my hard earned cash I would get the Challenger....and that is coming from a Camaro nut.
