Why do car manufacturers make cool concepts?

Seriously why is it that car manufacturers waste their time on concept cars if they never intend to build them?

Honestly out of all those, the only ones I do like is the Firepower, the rest look pretty ugly in my opinion.

They do it to raise brand awareness.....to showcase what they are capable of and to generate excitement. It's a great source of advertising.

If you look at a lot of current vehicles and got back around 5 years ago and look at the concepts you'll see a lot of design queues and technologies that were on the concepts make their way into production vehicles. A lot of concept vehicles never get greenlighted for production due to high costs, low public reaction or lack of market to sell such a vehicle. Most times they are simply design studies to see what public reaction is so they can move their production vehicles towards that type of styling. A lot of concepts are built to generate interest in a brand. The best most well received concepts are generally produced. Look at the Pontiac Solstice, Chevy SSR, and the latest, the new Camaro.

alot of there research and development money goes into them too.. alot of jumps in technology for cars are tested out on the concepts... rarely do you see a concept stay the same if it ever does hit production but you almost always see little bits and pieces of the concepts go into there other cars.. there is a reason concepts are in museums or scrapped... you dont want to drive around in a untested car..lol
they usually do a poll among consumer boards see what they like and dont like outta a concept and whats most cost effective lately.. so ends up popping out different everytime it seems

The Sky is the Saturn version of the Solstice. It's actually the same body as the Opel Vaxhall VX with a couple tweaks to make it a Saturn. The VX was displayed at the 2004 Detroit NAIAS.
