  • Polishing a Turd

Well I started detailing my car this weekend, and over the next few days will be continuing to do so.

First the car was pulled out into the driveway and sprayed down, then I used a concentrated measured amount of Danase' Shampoo in a 5 gallon bucket, and washed the car with a microfiber, spraying down every panel once it was washed to keep the soap from drying up.

After the car was gone over, I sprayed the wheels down, and them let them soak in Max Clean, and then proceeded to scrub the brake dust off of them. I also scrubbed the tires to get the old tire shine off of them. After all this was down, I bladed the car and dried it off with microfibers.

I let the car sit over night in the garage to let it thoroughly dry off, and put the car cover over it.

The next day I wiped the car down with Wizard's Mist and Shine, after doing so, I sprayed each individual panel thoroughly with the Mist and Shine and used a 200g purple clay bar, each panel was wiped down with a microfiber when I was done claying it.

I then busted out the wheel with a 3M white finishing wave pad, and some Danase' Pure Polish. I set up halogen lights around the car, and an industrial fan to keep my fat @$$ from sweating all over the car. I wheeled each individual panel, one by one, and then wiped it down. Upon looking at the panel and the scratches that stayed, I decided I wasn't going to completely take each scratch out. The car is usually kept very clean as it is, and I don't have a paint thickness meter to see how thick the paint was if I was going to continue to keep wheeling out the panels to get all of the imperfections out. After all was said and down the car was then wiped down with microfibers again.

After the whole car was wiped down I laid down some TR3 by hand with a microfiber applicator, which was allowed to dry to a full haze and then it was wiped down.

Today I will again detail it with Mist and Shine, and then hit it with some Danase' Wet Glaze by hand with another microfiber applicator and then I will decide on which wax I want to lay on Friday.

Sorry for the shitty pictures, they're from my cell phone. I'm too lazy to bust out the real camera.

If there was ever a car that begged for a LSX transplant, this is it.

C'mon, this is about detailing his car...

Sounds like you're putting a lot of work into it, Joe, it's too bad that Danase went out, he had a lot of good products.

I always clean it like this, I just figured I'd post some pictures and stuff. I haven't really ever taken pictures while I'm doing a step by step. I still have a bunch of his products, they are actually really really good products, it is a shame that he had to shut it down; good thing it was by choice though.

Sweet. I actually sent Fred and Ryan a text with a picture last night stating "time to put Joel in his place"

When the rear end's loose, the car's fast. Loose is fast, and on the edge you're out of control.

Haven't even gotten around to touching the motor yet. Hopefully tonight I will, but I've been paying attention to the crevices and everything that I normally pass up on a detail.
