X2. I'm the same way, I just like cars in general. If you worked or a family member worked for a certain company, I could see there being loyalty to that brand. I have however, seen people talk shit about the competing brands. To me that's just plain ignorant.

Chris, with all due respect, Detroit is the Motor City and is the home of Chrysler, Ford and General Motors. You can drive to many establishments of these big three within an hour, Detroit, Dearborn, Lansing, Livonia, Auburn Hills, Hamtramck, Sterling Heights, Warren, Wood Haven, Flint, Dundee, Saginaw, Milford, Romulus, Flat Rock and I'm sure I'm missing a few. They all have a plant or parts distribution center based on the big three. You may call it IGNORANT BUT IGNORANT IT IS NOT. It's home to many jobs for many people who are part of the big three. It's pretty obvious why an import comes into our "territory" we get a little defensive. It attacks (conscious or unconscious) our history and mainstay as a part of the Detroit Motor City history, present or future. That is the reason for brand loyalty.

You can try to justisfy the response about "family members" working for the big three but it's much more than that. It's the thousands of people that work at each plant / facility who spend money on lunches, dinners, taxes, home improvement stores etc. It's a sore spot for those who are against others who justify that Toyota makes cars in the US and the Big Three make cars in other countries. Take another look above at the economic impact the big three have locally vs our across the pond competitors. Again, not to try and sound like an ******* but this is why it is not ignorant to be partial to the big three.

If your referring to the gas petal situation you know some Ford trucks had the exact same problem, right? Wonder why it didn't get the same publicity as Toyota? As a matter of fact the same problem happened with Toyota's in Europe but the pcm is programmed so the brake pedal overrides the gas pedal. In America NO car manufacturer has that feature, now they are all looking into it seriously. I guess we just needed to be able to do burnouts

As James May would say, thats a "solution" to a problem that shouldnt exist in the first place. And what burnouts? Torque management is already taking care of that. We had a 2010 silverado at a party the other day that couldnt do a burnout (brake torque) with 350 hp... yet my 250hp 98 could?

In a few years its going to be necessary to figure an HPTuners lisence into the cost of a new car!

I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding...I'm not talking about this from a political standpoint. I am referring to what Jess was saying - that he's a car enthusiast, and loves lots of different cars from different manufacturers, nations, styles, ect. That's how I am. I love the styling and sounds of exotics, American Muscle, 1930's luxury cars, ect. It's ok to not be a fan of Ferrari's or Aston Martins.

And to be honest, lately I have been seeing more harshness in some of the threads and I often walk away offended by comments like these. I like having conversations with other car enthusiasts, not bashing each others' opinions. I hope these can be settled in a civil manner.

Examples:

1. Watching a drag racing show, sometimes I'll hear comments like, "Well of course it won, it's a MOPAR!" (or Chevy or Ford)

2. I spoke with a man driving a Chevy truck. He didn't want to buy a Ford because his dad would say, "Ahh, I see you finally broke down and bought a REAL car" (that being a Ford.)

I think those comments are ridiculous, and THAT'S what I mean when I say it's ignorant.

Obviously statistics show its a pretty close competition on both accounts but if you watch sports team only fairly assessing each team whats the fun of it? Competition and trash talking is fun. Certain brands are very much the same as "home teams" for a lot of people because of their family history.

That is all I did was root for my "home team" and I still do. Any race I ever watched I rooted for the Chevy first, then a Buick, Pontiac, Olds, and even a Mopar but NEVER A FORD and never a FOREIGN CAR. Ford was and still is the local "enemy" but the foreign cars really moved in and destroyed the local rivalry.
I like many foreign exotic cars but that will never stop my buying and only supporting GM.

For the record I have owned over 25 vehicles but no Fords or foreign.

True - I've thrown a lot of money at my car but most of my money has been into appearance and suspension. I really didn't spend THAT much on the motor/engine upgrades.

Chris I agree with you about it being sad how it goes, I just hope when I make it past all of this and start my collection owning a Mustang, Ferrari, Porsche, Trans Ams, Skylarks, and a Edsel are not going to get me bashed cause it would then be the time I walked away from a group of people I majorly respect because of their ability to lend a hand and help. Be sad to see something this small create a divide in a group of people.

Guys laugh all you want, but I see the Lingenfelter collection and think of a person who has a broad taste, maybe not what YOU would choose but most of you can appreciate the collection.. Nuff said..
