You know how the saying goes, "The day you aren't afraid of a bike is the day you should sell it."

Darren, if you want to learn how to ride, the best way to learn is to get some seat time in. Start out on a cheap bike that you won't feel bad about laying down, because it's definitely not uncommon for new riders to lay their bikes down. Get someone who has at least a couple of years of experience on a bike similar to the one you are going to be riding to ride with you, as they will be able to help you learn, and will have some tips that someone who's never been on a similar bike won't have. If you get a sport bike, ride with someone who's been riding a sport bike for a few years, etc.

I sent you a PM, I'm trying to sell my '83 Katana 750, thought you might be interested.

Darren not only learn how to ride it, but wear some gear!! I've got some nice scaring on my right arm from my elbow to my knuckles and I was just in a parking lot. Never get to confident, especially when you are just learning. My suggestion is when you are first starting to ride and you start getting comfortable, get off the bike! Because otherwise you start going faster and you're not experienced enough to correct something if something goes wrong. The faster you're going the faster the accident happens!

But otherwise have fun, because they are definitely a blast!!!

Just remember, you're invisible, Darren. I can't tell you how many times (even being blood red and pearl white, with crash bar lights and an HID headlight) people look straight at me but pull right out in front anyway. Bikes just don't compute as vehicles out there. As long as you understand that and always leave spacing on ALL sides when riding, as well as constantly keeping in mind an escape route, you should be fine. Don't let that sound like it's so much, really, it's a habit that forms quickly and becomes second nature. All other advice on here is right on, especially about the "respect the bike and it'll respect you" comment. Always ride defensively and ALWAYS perfectly sober. Keep the senses sharp and think for traffic.

BTW, nice lookin' rides you got there, Tom!

Everyone should start small and move their way up.

I love the guys that can ride a 250f in the 450 class and still win. Or guys that can ride a 250 through the twisties and keep up with a 600.

Nice pickup tom! I saw the avatar and had to look for the thread about it

Darren, if you wanna try a dirt bike you can come over my place and ride my CR250 around the yard. Just beware, the grass is forgiving the bike is not! If that scares you we also have a bad ass Honda EZ90 "Cub" which is a 1 speed fluid automatic. Dont let that one get away from you! Its fun to do wheelies all around the yard on though

agreed on both accounts. Whats even better is seeing a 125 compete with anything else. 250f and 450f are actually kinda close... at least judging from how they do against my bike in drag race.

All that tractor needs is a high-powered engine and it would fit in completely!
