Just saw a rare Porsche 959!

They were the apex of Porsche racing technology. The only problem was that the 959 was expensive to "modify" to USDOT specs, so not alot of people imported them. Always loved those cars, thanks for the pics.

Back in the mid-70's, when I was Solo II racing on a regular basis, I became good friends with several members of the West Michigan Region - Porsche Club of America, and gained a great respect and fondness of Porsches. I spent quite a lot of time in my friends 1975 Porsche 911 Cararra. I even got a chance to drive it during one autocross event where I came in 2nd place, just a few tenths behind it's owner.

The 959 was a technological marvel in the mid-80's, but was never certified to be legal in the United States. While they are very cool, for their advanced (at the time) technology, they are not my favorite (looks wise) of all the derivatives on the basic 911

Remember: Porsche is a two sylible word pronounced por-sha, so don't say "porsh"

I say Porsche - and use "Porsh" for short - kind of like how everyone calls a Chevrolet a Chevy.

And it's ow-di - not awwwdi.

There's so many mispronunciations of everything, but the Audi one pisses me off the most.

It has nothing to do with a person being snooty, it's actually someone's name. Like Chevrolet (I'll bet you say that one correctly), Ford, Chrysler, Harley, Davidson, etc. Besides, over the last 40+ years I've been around cars, I've found most Corvette owners to be way more snooty than any Porsche owners I've met.

Nono - what I meant was you know how people say "Poe-tay-toe" and "Poh-Tah-Toh" - Poh-tah-toh being the nose in the air way of saying potato. I'm not saying Porsche owners are snooty or the person themselves being snooty. Like that "Por-sha" is just the fancy way of saying it.

Great car.

Very possibly THE best road-going Porsche built until they introduced the GT...a technological marvel for it's time for sure...did they ever show the suspension working (essentially built with an air-ride suspension that could raise/lower the car 4")?

Like the Nissan Skyline R32/33/34 that are in the country as right hand drive cars....love them.
