Well I knew it was going to be there, the guy at the place told me to come back sometime during the week because he would show it to us. I called in before I went there, and the guy said it was going to be taken outside for a photo shoot. There was a guy shooting it professionally for a catalogue, and I was just there filming it for fun. Lucky me!Originally posted by Emulsifide View PostSWEET!!! Bill Gates, Paul Allen, and Jerry Seinfield each own one. Those are the three that I know of in the U.S. Were you just in the right place at the right time or were you shooting video of it for a reason?
Yep, that's another one I've seen. I'd be interested to hear how he got it. Must have been a royal pain in the ass!Originally posted by bri2203 View PostKen Lingenfelter also has one. He was telling me how he bought it and the hoops he had to jump through to get it into the country.

i watched a cool documentary on msnbc about porsche history. didnt relize the guy was the creator of the vw beetle...and was in prison for war crimes as he used hitlers money for cars. he was a very smart man as was his son who designed the porsche while his dad was in prison. very good documentary if you are a porshe fan id search it out on utube or msnbcRick

That's why the main host on Top Gear always calls them a "Beetle", always found that funny.Originally posted by scoopi42 View Posti watched a cool documentary on msnbc about porsche history. didnt relize the guy was the creator of the vw beetle...and was in prison for war crimes as he used hitlers money for cars. he was a very smart man as was his son who designed the porsche while his dad was in prison. very good documentary if you are a porshe fan id search it out on utube or msnbc

I concur that it's definitely not the most exiting design, but it's the rarity that makes it exiting to see.Originally posted by xDetroitMetalx View PostThat's why the main host on Top Gear always calls them a "Beetle", always found that funny.

Back in the mid-70's, when I was Solo II racing on a regular basis, I became good friends with several members of the West Michigan Region - Porsche Club of America, and gained a great respect and fondness of Porsches. I spent quite a lot of time in my friends 1975 Porsche 911 Cararra. I even got a chance to drive it during one autocross event where I came in 2nd place, just a few tenths behind it's owner.
The 959 was a technological marvel in the mid-80's, but was never certified to be legal in the United States. While they are very cool, for their advanced (at the time) technology, they are not my favorite (looks wise) of all the derivatives on the basic 911
Remember: Porsche is a two sylible word pronounced por-sha, so don't say "porsh"
