  • Spring 2010 Updates on my car

Well I have been stockpiling parts for over a year (because I love driving and couldn't bring myself to take it off the road before ). But I finally had to tear into it this spring for some updates. My turbo's were blowing smoke and my transmission was grinding more often so things needed to be refreshed. I can't complain though I got over 2 years and 25k miles on the TT kit. It went on the car at 89k and I have over 116k on it now.

Anyway on to the fun. I have a TON to do to the car this spring. Strano springs / KYB struts are going on. Finally wiring up all of my gauges, my shiftlight & stealthbox. I changed from a pillar mount to dash mounted auxiliary gauges to keep with my sleeper theme. I got a 6LE overlay for my dash to change the look and swapped out the bulbs for LED's. Replacing my knock sensors to get rid of my Check Engine light and swapping my intake while I am in there from a f-body to a Corvette one to get rid of that EGR hole I plugged. I replaced my turbo cartridges (chinese knockoffs) with true Mitsubishi 20G-TD06 balanced centers. And I had my transmission rebuilt and upgraded with billet forks, bronze pads, new synchros and had to replace 2nd gear as well. I painted all of my exhaust gloss black while it was off / unbolted from teh car. I also had a bunch of stuff powdercoated to dress it up.

On to the pics. First two are the before of my trans and turbo's so you can see the before & after.

And some more pics. I am loving how the powdercoated stuff turned out! And my trans guy was awesome as well. He let me see all the inside gears after he pulled it apart and we discussed what options I would need or should have. He showed me what needed to be replaced and explained it all. It was really cool. He told me he was spoiled by working on such a clean transmission after I borrowed the housing and had it coated.

And the good news is that even though APS used cheap chinese knockoff turbo's, the true mitsubishi cartridges built perfect with my housings and my oil & coolant fittings. So hopefully the car will be back together within a week or so and you'll see it out & about once again.

Thanks Brian. I can't wait either! This warm weather has been killing me not to drive it. I find myself making turbo & V8 exhaust noise when commuting in my winter beater.

Thanks Liz. It's all stuff I have been meaning to do and well, since the car is down for the count, figured I should finally do.

Thanks Jon! That wideband will finally get used! I had it mounted but not wired up when I had the pillar mount for the gauges. You had my wiring guy cussing when he had to de-pin that connector to resplice where you cut it. But we found a good routing for the wire so it all worked out.
