I want to buy a new digital Camera. suggestions.

I completely forgot about that pic! All I did to get that was adjust the shutter speed a bit, and had the guys at Red's move really fast with the sparklers. . . lol

The pics I posted are also untouched.. No photoshop for me.. Not smart enough. 99% of a good pic is the picture taker. you can have a 10 zillion dollar camera, but if you don't have the eye you will never take a good picture.. I purposely posted non car shots to show the vibrance and colors straight from the camera. I am not claiming I am a pro, either, but have taken some pretty good pics over the years.

My pics are also untouched. I don't have photoshop, when I did have it, 90% of the time I just made the pics look worse. They seem to look better straight off the memory card than I could make them look in Photoshop. I used to have photoshop, but quickly gave up on it when my hard drive crashed, I didn't want to have to dig around for another place to um. . . "obtain". . . a copy.

Those SLRs really take a nice picture!! I will have to do a little more research this weekend and make a decsion if I can make the SLR jump.

Just a word of advice, if you are considering a DSLR. Also consider what accessories you will want in the future (Lenses, Filters, Flashes, etc). This is one of the main reasons I stick to Nikon. You can use any of the Nikon lenses dating back 50 years! Same goes for most flashes as well, meaning you can buy a lot of cool stuff like macro or zoom lenses used for cheap. Canon is much the same for the most part. Olympus and Pentax are a bit more proprietary, but it all depends how into "it" you want to get. Do your research and check out www.thephotoforum.com for tips. There are a lot of nice cameras out there. Take your time and find one that fits you.

BTW Nick, if you decide to upgrade your DSLR you might check into the Pentax K20D. For the price it is a bad wamma jamma! Just about the most rugged SLR available besides an Olympus E-3 or Nikon D3. I know how much you love to go Jeeping and that means dust water and shocks.

That's what the Olympus "Tough" 10MP is for. . . lol

I may upgrade, but what's the point, you know? I don't do nearly enough with photography to warrant a step up like that. Although it would be nice to get rid of 2 cameras and replace them with one. . .

Oh, and just a FYI to anyone looking at Pentax cameras, the DSLR's they currently make are backwards-compatible with ANY PENTAX K-, KA-, KAF- and KAF2-mount lenses; screw-mount lenses (with an adapter); and 645- and 67-system lenses (with an adapter). Very versatile cameras. Plus, like I said, it's a little easier to get used to for some of us novices than the Nikon. I tried using Ben's D50 after using my Pentax for a while, and it was pretty overwhelming, trying to figure out how everything works. Changing settings in a menu instead of just turning the knob, that kind of thing.

Only thing I don't like about Pentax is that not many photography shops carry their stuff, a lot of the accessories are online or mail-order only, given the lack of photography specialty shops in my area, at least.

They are great investments. I love my Pentax, only thing is, I got REALLY lucky and bought mine on Clearance, last one in the store besides the display model, for $180. They still go on ebay for over $400. You just have to decide what you want, what you're willing to pay, and stick it out until the right deal comes along.

Go slr if you at all can, youll never go back, I promise. Good entry slr is Nikon D40 or D40x. If your just looking for a good point and shoot go with a canon digital elph. All metal case, ive beat the hell out of ours(we have 3) and take some really incredible pictures, our newest takes full hd video as well. I deal extensively with these and I cant tell you how good of a camera they are. We bought 30 or so 4 years ago for our office staff for presents and some went out into the field, all but 2 are still used almost daily, one got dropped into lake michigan(never seen that again) and the other was on the back of a pickup and someone took off. Camera was still good, just the scree was broke.

Out of all of them the 780 is a phenomenal camera, and you can pick it up for $200 or less.

Well I am glad I started this thread! I decided not to buy a SLR at this time for a couple reasons 1. I don't think I would use it enough to justify the cost. 2. the times I would want it I wouldn't have it with me because they are so large. 3. When I go on trips/vacaction I do not want to be that guy who has to take pictures of everything, i want to enjoy the experience.

So I went to Costco today...
