  • I want to buy a new digital Camera. suggestions.

Currently I have an Olypus 850, 8.0 megapixel(shock and waterproof). Maybe I am using it wrong but over 1/2 of my pictures turn out grainy! My previous $100 5 megapizel took better pictures.
I still have another year of warrenty on it.

I am hoping for a buy a decent digital camera to take pictures of cars, car parts I sell and random pictures, I don't need an SLR. (I just learned that that more expensive isn't better, (do not want a shock proof water proof model!))
Is there something I should consider?
smaller the better, I would like to spend under $250

I went from a 3mpixel kodak one to a 8 MP Sony one it cost like 150 bucks, I dont need something that is crazy cuz im like you not photographing for money or nething I just want the pics aka memorys. I would go to a local store I hear Canon is really good. Pretty much look in the sales papers pick one and go get it. my gf has an old ass one and it works great we take it everyware because if we loose it so what. its old.

I have 2 shockproof/waterproof Olympus', one's an 8MP, one's like 10MP. I needed something that I couldn't break, so they work out great for me. Maybe it's just a setting that needs to be tweaked?

I have a Pentax DSLR that I picked up for like $200, it takes better pictures than either of the Olympus Point-and-Shoot cameras do, but you have to put in some effort to get the best pics.

I have a Pentax DSLR also and really like it. Pentax historically have made some of the best lenses out there.

I actually just picked my wife up a new digital camera today for her birthday, lol. Its a 10 mega pixel kodak easy share. Its on sale at K Mart for $90.00, regular price $150. Seems to work good, she loves it. Works for me, lol. Eric L

I was definitely playing with a Nikon D5000 at the PX today. . . Still can't get over the difference in feel between that and my Pentax. I love the quality of the images my Pentax has put out, I think I'll hold onto it for a while. Nothing I do really requires a high-resolution camera anyway, I mostly use them for documenting projects and photographing memorable events.

Olympus offers some nice affordable ones. Sony is okay too. Canons are great. I myself prefer Nikons but not their lower line of stuff, only their DSLRs.

I have an Olympus E-510 DSLR, takes awesome shots! Check your settings? Maybe you have something set wrong, an 8 MP should take quality pics. These are some samples from mine.

Edit: sorry missed your price range and now wanting a SLR.. Sony and Cannon make some nice point and shoot cameras. I have a Cannon PNS and it takes very good pics. You can get the E-510 for pretty cheap I would bet. I bought mine new 2 years ago, so sure the prices have come way down.

I have a Samsung point and shoot. Joel put it on his tripod and got some damn nice shots. I like it because it does a full 16:9

Alright, Larry, I'll bite. . . Here are a couple of pics I took with my Pentax. I'm not claiming to be a photographer, and the pics were shrunk when I uploaded to PhotoBucket, but you get the idea. All these were taken in "out of the box" configuration, just as you would pick one up from a store. It's a Pentax K110d, a 6.1MP DSLR with plenty of features, I actually thought it was easier to get used to and had more intuitive controls then the Nikon's I've played with.

I have some really nice night pics somewhere, I don't think they've been uploaded yet though. These should be enough though. Just trying to show you what a 6.1MP camera is capable, I'd be willing to bet that your Olympus just needs a couple of settings tweaked, and you'll be happy with it. I think I had the same problem with my 8MP Olympus Tough, and I started having problems with my 10MP camera, but I changed a couple of settings, and the pics came out 100X better.

The pics I posted are also untouched.. No photoshop for me.. Not smart enough. 99% of a good pic is the picture taker. you can have a 10 zillion dollar camera, but if you don't have the eye you will never take a good picture.. I purposely posted non car shots to show the vibrance and colors straight from the camera. I am not claiming I am a pro, either, but have taken some pretty good pics over the years.
