  • Decisions, decisions... 87 GTA project?

So I have been passively looking for a set of gold cross lace GTA rims for my TA for the last few years but they have always been more than I wanted to spend. I finally came across a set a couple weeks ago for a decent price and was going to go look at them.

The next day I found this set.

The problem was that they were still attached to this...
    IM000801..jpg

and next thing I know it decided to follow the jeep home...
    IM000802..jpg

So now the question is do I keep just the rims and sell the car or turn it into anther project...

            Hmmm...interesting...

Tough to tell in the pics, but does it have four "front" rims on it? Kinda looks like it...

Get it running, detail it, slap a $500 Maaco paint job on it, and it will be an easy flip if you wanted to just flip it...

The interior is completely out and needs to be put back in. It was tan but one of the PO painted everything black..
I have a few more pics I'll post up later. There is one spot of rust behind the driver's door in front of the rear wheel, but it appears to be just on the body panel, not under or in the wheel well.

5.7 TPI with 96k and seems to run great. With a Maaco paint job and me doing the body work it should be less than

I'm not sure how to tell other than take the rims off and look on the inside but I don't think they are. Is there a quick way to tell without taking them off?
That is the direction that I'm leaning at this point. It will give me something to drive while I redo my 86.

They did, one of the PO's took it off, probably because it was cracked like they all do. He decided to put the firebird one on.

very cool indeed! Sounds like you will make $$ either way.
On the rims, the fronts will have a larger "dish" to it or offset if you will. If you look at the rim face, then measure the lip, the fronts will be a little larger then the rears.
I'm going to guess 3/4's of an inch larger? I should be close with that guess.

                      But yeah take more pics!!!

I'll check that when I get home, I knew that the fronts and rears were different, my 86 is the same way but I thought the outside was the same and only the offset changed. Good to know.

A "front" has a deeper lip on it (16mm)...the "rears" have a narrower lip.

Once you see it, it's very obvious...

I've got 4 "fronts" on the 89...red highlights are where the lips will be different between "fronts" and "rears"...

EDIT: "Fronts" are roughly 2x more valuable than "rears"...

Thanks, I'll check after I get home from work, and after I stop drooling over your 89. I have always loved those. I found one for sale a few months ago with 23k miles and if I would have had the cash I would have bought it. Someday....

The fronts are that much more desirable?

I would say yes, you stick a set of front rims on the rear...it makes it look pretty sweet.
