  • deer vs. suburban pics

hood, fender, grill, radiator, trans cooler...and other stuff all toast, click to enlarge pics

but she took it like a champ...hardly felt it (compared to what I would expect) kept me safe , and you can tell why I like the steel bumpers on the older suburbans.

on a side note, I did alot more walking today...walked to the dealership...ran into some friends along the way and feel GREAT

they say it is going to take about 1 1/2 weeks to repair it, which I guess is not too bad?

The airbag is definitely a freaky thing. I spun out in my mom's old Aztek and went driverside first into a tree. I hit the tree just behind where I was sitting. A foot further forward and I would have been seriously hurt... Glad you're ok man!

Also, Can't stress enough to wear your seat belt!!! a fellow student at my school died in a car accident this weekend...the passenger survived with only minor scratches because they were wearing their seat belt

Yeah, it was a real bonus not to have the airbags go off, because you definitely would have gotten hurt somehow. Glad you came out of it OK, and glad it wasn't your TA!

Well that could of been a lot worse. The way you were making it sound I thought it was damn near totalled.

Air bags are mostly triggered by how fast your going, not by how much damage is done. My wife smashed her 05 Grand Am and the damage looked worst then the Suburban. I'll try to find some pics later.

ehh I dont think so, I think it has to do with the pressure on the bumper

You guys are both wrong to an extent. There are sensors in the bumper/core support/fenders and are "open" If an impact is hard enough a small pellet will make contact and complete the circuit. When this happens the bags blow. On newer vehicles there is more involved such as seat sensors, speed sensors, direction sensors, etc but the rest is the same. Newer cars have 6+ airbags between the dash, Apillar, and Bpillar. The sensors will tell the car what bags to blow. It's really saved money for insurance agencies because it will only blow the needed bags.
