  • HDR of GTA

Dunno if any of you have ever heard of "HDR", but its a series of 8 or so photos taken all at different exposure levels then merged together to grab all the details of a subject. We did this on the GTA at midnight.

The shot is kinda neat if you ignore the massive swirl action, lol.

My friend Paul did it with his Nikon D50, hes got all the expensive stuff for his camera.

Got a bunch of regular shots to come when I get the disc from him.

Very cool shot, but do you really have to do HDR? To me, it looks like a regular shot with the brightness level put at like +2.0 or so.

When I get the disc with all the shots ill post a single exposure version so you can see how much of a difference it makes, you'll be suprised.

Remember... thats at midnight... it was pitch black, and we didnt use any flash.

I guess I do see the difference after looking at some of my own pics... this is a regular shot with no flash.

It's a tricky process to get right, a lot of the time they just look like overexposed weird pictures, for example, this one:

When it comes to merging the images together, what exactly does that involve? For shits and giggles last night, I took pictures using my camera and did the brightness exposure at -2.0, -1.5, -1.0, -0.5, 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 to see if it'd get the same effect.

Take a look at some of the replies ive gotten on TGO, they have links to some free software & tutorials to do it, also check out the HDR of the IROC, it's sweet.

I think I'm gonna try that on my car before I sell it. That pic is really quite awesome!
