what kind of options does it have? was it a Z71? posi? trans/engine cooler?

you definitely need to check the bottom of the doors for rust if you haven't already. Thats one of the only places mine had cancer, and some prep work + chasis saver put that to a stop. edit: forgot, i also drilled holes to help with drainage: trapped water is what causes the problem in first place.

Interesting it needs new shocks so bad though, im amazed how perfect my stock bilsteins still work at 81k miles.
Yeah...there is a little bit of rust on the bottom of the doors...first place I looked when I got to see the truck the first time, cause I know that a problem area for these trucks. I'm toying with the idea of stripping off the whole lower portion..where it's gold in color, and fixing the rust and have it repainted white

I was suprised too to see that the shocks were that bad....they are the stock Bilsteins on there right now. The truck bouces quite a bit going down the road....and rolls over quite alot when you go into a sharp turn. Not sure I want to put some high dollar shocks on it or just go with some cheap ones yet?

I think that knocking that gold off and going with all white would be an awesome idea!!

if they are bilstein shocks that probably means it was a Z71 (not sure if you verified that or not)... but the package was [i think] those shocks, 265 tires, and skidplates.

As far as the rolling goes, it might be your torsion bar setting. My truck seemed to be adjusted kind of low in the front when i got it, and I vividly remember the front end "floating" around like a buick. However, once i cranked it up a little it has a much firmer stance on the road in all aspects. I'd say the only thing it has negatively effected somewhat is weight transfer when braking.... and frankly the brakes suck anyway so it doesnt really matter.

Im sure you know as much as i do though... torsion bar suspension just doesnt plant in corners. If you push it hard, its gonna understeer like a biatch

I love the idea of making it solid white. You could take it a step further and do like i plan .... get a set of factory fender flares from a 2500 and body match them.

No Z71 on the RPO list

Body colored fender flares would be nice.....I'd want some beefier tires on mine though. The tires on it rght now are almost new, but they are a bit small for my tastes.

What the best forum for these trucks?

I'm compiling a list of things I need to do to this truck.....after my wedding I plan on spending some time addressing the list.

                    http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/ is a good one.

A set of 285/75 BFG's would look good on there.

yep, fullsizechevy.com, and if you dont find your answer there gmfullsize.com has almost as much.

My 285 BFG all terrains look like they belong on it, but you gotta crank a little to fit them i believe.

here was mine when i bought it:

here it is now (less the tonneau cover for whatever reason):

Hey Joel...can you hear the fuel pump running on your truck? I can hear mine buzzing away all the time when the windows are down or I'm outside the truck...no matter if the tank is full or empty.

yes, my fuel pump is the loudest of any vehicle ive ever had. been that way since i bought it at 30k miles. my old '92 TBI i couldnt hear at all.

also figured id give you a couple other ideas:
                                • you can cap off the intake silencer and remove the air lid - i got substantially better throttle response and even mileage doing that.
                                • dual exhaust is a peice of cake to do with the factory 2-into-1 muffler, and it helped my mileage... didnt do much for power though.
                                • I also added a corvette servo to the trans and that was a great upgrade for $20
                                • if your truck isnt equipped with the overhead console, it is very simple (and cheap) to add one.
                                • DRL's are easy to disable, just remove the module behind the lower part of the dash. I'm eventually planning to wire up a switch for mine.
                                • The ABS (and brakes) on these trucks are absolutely terrible.... you might want to disable ABS but thats obviously up to you. I can stop WAY better in slick conditions without it. Make sure your rear brakes are properly adjusted and doing their job, if they are not you will have warped front rotors in 5k miles. They self-readjust by doing a quick stop in reverse... however factory pads are known to glaze over and not be the most effective so replacing them is on my to-do list.

Also ill share my experience this weekend - I hooked up HPTuners to my truck this weekend and found my trans was actually slipping a little already... I removed the torque management and upped the line pressure just a little to compensate for the wear and it feels like a million bucks again, at gentle acceleration i am using half the throttle I was using before. Im going to get it flushed soon, but ive always kept the fluid changed. Yours might be fine though... my old 92 was still snappy at 200k but that was a 700r4.
