  • Meissen! Night Photo Help?

    Hi Bri or anyone else,

A group of us were at Auto Euro tonight and I took my new camera. A lot of photos are blurryish. I used a monopod. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks Everybody!

brian uses a tripod. its really the only "consistent" way of taking good night shots.

Your long shutter speed that you're using to compensate for the lack of light is too slow to take focused pics. You either need a tripod, alternate lighting or a flash.

A tripod works absolute wonders. I hate using flash, so my exposures are usually rather long, and a tripod is the only way to get a good exposure without blurring.

I think it really depends on the camera. My dad's new digi cam takes amazing night shots. His night shots while running are better than my daytime stills on my camera!

Uh oh, there goes the proof I was out there!lol
Yes, use a tripod if possible, you were using the flash so it should have been okay. Check your settings and see if it has the capability to change film speed. It was probably factory set at 100, for night you can play with it and move it up to 800 or 1600.

Randy is exactly correct. Yes, you must use a tripod at night if it is not a flash shot. And set your ISO to the highest setting possible.
I shot this with a tripod but left the ISO in auto. The long distance makes it almost impossible to get it perfectly clear.

Well, I'll forget to bring the monopod in favor of the tripod next time. I am also trying to find some tutorials on camera settings including proper aperture, ISO, and shutter speed adjustments. I will be sure to share what I find with the rest.

Nah, I did get a few I like. But I could always use a few pointers from a pro if they are giving them.

Here are a few shots that are not the greatest but workable...
