  • New Daily Driver '13 Optima SXL

Just for fun - new to me Daily driver. '13 Optima SXL 2.0T

The mighty Impala was aging quickly, the cost of everything skyrocketing, and the local pick-n-pull yards thinning the herd of 00-05 Impalas, I opted for something southern and affordable.
Heated/Cooled Leather seating, Superview cluster, Flappy Paddle shifters, Full glass roof with sunroof, auto leveling headlights, LED lighting, NAV, Infinity sound with sub, 18" wheels, and red factory painted calipers. I recently upgraded to Michelin Crossclimate 2 tires, and it rides incredibly well. Quiet, composed.

The 275hp and 6 speed are quite punchy for what it is. I'd like to add an intercooler to bring it up to today's 300hp standards. It seems everything these days is around 290-310hp.
In current trim, it knocks down 36mpg if I keep my foot out of the turbo, on 87octane.

I know many of us on here usually balk at these types of cars, but I need a high MPG daily due to a very long work commute.
It's actually quite good....for Sub $8K. If you can find a good, clean example that's not thrashed to an inch of it's life - test drive one.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new K5 GT with the 2.0L as a daily, if I had the money.

For now, this will do the daily grind to keep the 'bird and the 'maro free to enjoy weekend shows.

I'd never give someone shit about a DD that gets actual fuel economy.

Just don't drive it like a douche like so, so many Optima Turbo drivers do!

Oh, those turbos...good mpg potential, but so easy to ruin the mpg avg for a tank be using the boost....it really crams the fuel and air in, which is the point, but it's harder (IMO) to modulate between light throttle cruise and being into the boost. Very little middle ground.
