Young, dumb, and ignorant... I would gladly drive my Trans Am through the winter and still own it than drive a nice car wishing I had a toy. Some of us aren't fortunate enough to be able to afford a winter car. I'm lucky I am but I remember a time when I was choosing to drive my toys in the winter instead of not owning them at all.

    • Agree 100% with Tom on the people not being fortunate enough to own a second vehicle. It's tough, but it's just how it is. Some people get that AWESOME car in the spring and just anticipate buying that beater before winter... well winter comes faster and they can't afford it for whatever reason. It's just how it goes. I don't blame them.

      • I mean - and times like this, after a big rain, it's awesome to be able to drive my loud, fun red camaro. Sure, it's cold out, but the salt's all gone [for a few days] and there should be no complaints.

Driving home on I-75 about 30 minutes ago was just incredible. I wanted to push 100, but with the sidewinds, I just couldn't push myself to go 100, since that could end up killing me, and worse, my car. So a cool 80 for the short time on 75.

I realized how much I love my car.

        • Some people got no respect. I'd drive my car if the roads didn't get coated with salt daily. My shit sits outside anyways, unfortunately. I just don't have to drive it. Besides it's mostly plastic, not like it's gonna rust. And the parts that do are replaceable. ahahaahhah.

No, unless it's absolutely necessary...I wouldn't drive my car in the snow.

I disagree, fbodies are unibody cars. Which means if the frame rots through you can kiss you car bye bye because there is no way you will want to spend the money to have the frame redone by a shop. I just won't happen. I have seen many a 4th gen with rust damage to the quarter panels and rockers. A single quarter panel replacement will cost you $1700. Would you be willing to spend ($1700 X 2 = $2400+) to fix a $5000- car? I would not think so. Why do you think there are so many 3rd gens going to the scrap heap because of this mentality.

Adam, cars are a product and each has a product life cycle. 4th gens are cheap right now because there are quite a few around and the demand is not as high as say for a 1st or 2nd gen. But the same could be said for corvettes and any other car. Heck I was checking out a $1500 80's Porsche 944 the other day. Give it a decade or two and 4th gens will be selling in the $30+K category.

I often feel like Extreme does. But I am less in your face about it. Sure it pisses me off to see a good car go to waste but what am I going to do? It is like telling a smoker that they need to quit because otherwise they will get cancer. Most smokers already know this much like many fbody owners and will not respond well to my lectures. But eventually it will hit you say in 10 years or so when you look back and say damn I really should not have done that. Doh!

I know this because there have been many guys who have driven their 1st / 2nd gen cars in winter just to have to junk them out and regret it for the rest of their lives. P.S. you can buy a used truck or older car for $500 or less that will make it through the winter. Heck a lot of times if you ask around you can find something even cheaper if not free! I mean how many 80's caprices are in the Detroit area that you could pick up and drive for years. Heck my mom hit over 300,000 miles on many of her caprice b-body cars.

If a person can spend thousands of dollars on mods a year why not spend a fraction of that amount to help you and your car out. It is a lot like retirement. All the people who planned ahead and invested and saved money are going to enjoy their retirement. But then you've got a lot of people who do not have such foresight and end up in this category of relying on others like the government to step in and provide for them. Anyone remember the Ant/Grasshopper proverb?

                          • Show me where I can get a RELIABLE car for $500 or less! I've never seen them. Any of the "cheap" cars I've seen would wind up costing you 5x that much to keep it running and safe.

i guess im in the minority, i think the concept grille looks 10x better. The wide "huffed" dividers fit the wide, huffed car IMO.

I've had SEVERAL cars for $500 or less that were reliable

1984 Delta 88 $500, put 15,000 miles on it only to wreck it in an accident

1985 Ranger $200, i only put like 3,000 miles on it but it ran sweet

1994 Toyota Camry $500, put 8K on it no problems at all

1997 Saturn SW (familys car, $700) but he has put over 50K on this little car and its never had any problems

that is just a few i've had, only $ i put into them was regular fluid/filters and the occassional brake job
