That's the point of most rat rods...leave it as you found it as far as paint/rust and don't do anything with it. Rust adds to the patina of it. Some primer them but anymore those are few and far between. Most of the guys don't even fix rust holes, dents, bullet holes, etc as they all add to the character of the original tin.

Lookin at two options right now:Originally posted by Naterman35 View PostSo what are the total plans for her? 350? 383? What rear?. What are you gonna use for a grill? Any idea what the paints gonna turn out like?
1) Totally sacrilegious 5.3L late model vortec LS motor somehow done up to not look sooo bad
OR
2) A rebuilt ford 302/t5 with big roller cam and worked over 351 heads.
The rear is a narrow 9" ford from a 59 Ford.
Grille - not sure yet, looking for a ratty 32 grille shell or 34 grille.
As for paint, as you see it now is as it'll look. The only bodywork she'll get is some grinding on the welds and maybe some lower door patch panels.

Well I got the price on the 302 from Kenny today.
$800
Here's the specs:
from 87 mustang, stock forged pistons, bores looked real good so it was honed at stock bore and re-ringed, new bearings throughout, hot tank, plugs etc. New oil pump / pickup, machined front cover for mechanical fuel pump. Recond rods, polished crank, new timing chain.
Big roller cam, forget durations but lift is about .530. Giant valve springs with 1.65 roller rockers, big stainless valves all in some early 351 heavily ported heads.
Comes with flywheel, 2 starters, all accessories
Good T-5 transmission with shifter also included.
Just need dizzy, intake, carb and fuel pump.
whatcha guys think?

Sounds like you'll get a nice lump from that big bumpstick, that'll sound sweet and fit the image better than the 5.3Originally posted by MattODoom View PostWell I got the price on the 302 from Kenny today.

Glad to see you are putting up a ton of pictures. Haven't had a lot of threads like this. Seems the DZ28 (or whatever it is) thread sorta died off, Tonys TT is complete, and OT's Project 81 Z28 has haulted.
I think you need to go pull the grill off an 40's-50's tractor!!!
What are your plans for the 29th? If you are working and want an extra body I'm game. I'll even bring my own beer! Only a 12pk so I can still drive home later of course!2005 Yamaha R6
