you;d be suprised on that that car can do against a vette and eevrything else
Again, I'm not disputing that. But we're now turning Meadowbrook into a SEMA show.

The VW is a nice exercise, but it's out of place for a concourse car event.

And, frankly, you sink the same money into any performance platform and the VW loses every time. And I'd like to see how that car holds up to 15K miles a year through all elements like a vette or even Viper could do.

I appreciate the passion, I appreciate the efforts to do something different, but...but...it just pales in comparison next to the competition that it's chosen.

    Wrong event...wrong car.

The facts of the case is that car likely took $60K or more to produce.

            And it's a VW.

It's not a performance platform. This was built to satisfy somebody's individual passion for a car.

Will it handle/perform like a truely dedicated performance platform would?

            No.

If you took a WRX STI, a 4th gen Camaro, a 20 year old Corvette, an aging Porsche 930, and dumped sixty large into it, what would you have?

            A better car.

            In every aspect.

            Period.

It just doesn't belong with all the other thoroughbreds around it.

And a poor choice for a Meadowbrook event.

I'm not disputing it may be a great handling car.

But it's like making a Corvair go fast...can you do it?

            Sure.

But why spend the money when other platforms are more receptive to the modifications?

Because somebody out there loves a VW...that's why.

i have to agree with everything this guy is saying about this. you can make anything fast, its about the style that sets these cars apart. while this vw may be a respectible vehicle, wrong car wrong show.

Exactly. It's like racing in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

I volunteered at the Concours and brought one car there this year.

I didn't get a chance to walk up the new exotic cars but I did see a CAULEY Enzo. Do you know who owns that Veyron? I know of someone who ordered one.

The show was amazing except for the rain. Every car there was a piece of art work. Kid Rock had a 1939 Caddilac there. Bob Lutz presented many awards. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures
