How hard is it?...me and a buddy are plannin on doing this when we get off of school. Ive been reading and it looks like the hardest part is compressing the front springs...these are v6 springs so am i correct in saying that it would be easier then v8 springs. it looks pretty straight forward just wondering for a first time doing this how long it may take. oh btw they are bilsteins and eibachs.

I assume youve read ls1howto.com. Im not sure ive v6 springs are any easier. Im going to be doing my swap over in a couple weeks. Im going to call around and check on prices of just having my fronts swapped by a shop. Ill just pop them off and have them do it. If i can find it for about 20 or 30 then its worth the money vs. the hassle.

I have done it at home and at a shop. You can rent a strut spring compressor tool at Murrays. You will probably fight it for a while but it isn't to hard. Depending on how long the nut has been on the top you may have some problems getting that off. If you can get someone to do it for $20 or $30 bucks, go that route.

Doesnt matter if its V6 or V8 springs, there is alot of pressure on those things. The best thing to do is take the shock/spring to a shop and have them swap the springs around for you.

Thats what I did on my 94 V6. But when I did my 99 SS I did it with a manual spring compessor the my father in law loaned me. Wasnt no shops open at 3am! It was a pain! (I worked 3rd shift when I did those)

If you have a spring compressor its not that hard.
If you have to buy a spring compressor you might want to compare the cost of the compressor to the cost of getting it done and go that route.

But if you have lots of extra money, then paying someone to do work for you is always easier.

I for one, with limited funds, would rather save the money to spend on something else I want for the car. There is always something else to buy.

I'll be doing mine on my 3rd gen here shortly.
Rears are really simple for sure. Fronts are a little harder.
Dont forget to get a front end allignment when your done.
I think it thows off the camber.

Then after that my subframe connectors go on......as long Gary doesnt steal them 1st!

If you're on the east side, you can go to Autozone or Murrays and rent a spring compressor. You put a deposit down when you rent it, and then when you return the part they give you your money back == 0 monetary loss on your part.

Take them to NAPA. Cost me $28 for the pair to get the top plates swapped over to the new struts/springs. Well worth it to me. Spring compressors are a pain in the ass and can be dangerous if they slip off. I just dropped the parts off before lunch and picked them up after I got off work. No sweating, swearing or skinned up knuckles!

I agree 100% the fronts are a pain in the ass without a bench compressor

when i did the front of mine i didnt even use a compressor at all, just dropped the lower arm and then let it out slowly, then when puttin the new one in it was much shorter so went in easier

Yeah... that's because thirdgen's have a vastly superior front suspension setup.
