  • Cleaning up brake dust...

KK I curious what to use when cleaning the backwalls of rims...

My 2 front 18"'s are dirty from the brake dust on them (havn't put them back on this year yet)...and wondering best method to cleaning off brake dust...

Alot of people told me just use soap and water but anything else that wont really harm the rims?

Someone also told me cleaning degreaser "Purple Power" but it said dont use on wheels?

lol sometimes you have to resort to a wire wheel. That stuff is usually caked on pretty damn good. I know I tried to clean mine a month ago with a tire cleaner that was supposed to get rid of the dust, but alas it did not work.

Are your rims chrome or polished? That will determine what best to use.

simple green, just dont let it sit on the outer part of your wheel very long... it is strong stuff. otherwise acid works real good and is safe (for the wheel, not you) but i doubt you have any of that.

I use Eagle One All Wheel and Tire cleaner and a stiff nylon brush first to get the majority of the crud off. If there's still stuff on it I use automotive paint wax and grease remover on a rag. Works well and won't harm the finish.

Simple green works well. It really depends on how bad it is though. Got any pics?
