Why bother getting them if you have to get them widened? That's just more money and hassle and you'll have to run spacers on the rears to get the offset right after they've been widened. On the front you're only going to be able to run a 255/40/18 tire on an 8.5" rim. That might look a bit small considering real WS6's run 17x9's with 275/40/17 tires.

So Matt, are you using the same profile of tires on those larger rims or what?
If your keeping the overall diameter the same of the rim and tire combination, when how is that filling your big wheel openings?
Or are you putting tall tires on large rims and changing the speed sending unit?Currently Owned F-Bodies

I have stock WS6 16" wheels.
If/when i go to an aftermarket wheel Ill be looking into 18's or 19's.
By filling in the wheel well i meant visually. you could have a 14" rim with the same overall height as an 18" wheel/tire combo... but the 18" will look visually 'fuller'... because its not a big area of black around the wheel.
Which is why I really dont care for black rims... just makes the entire wheel area look like a big block of black and detracts from the car IMO.Last edited by MattODoom; January 26th, 2007, 05:07 PM.

look at the price on the tires you want to buy first.. if you get 17's get 275/40/17's.. if you get 18's get 275/35/18s.. a 35/18 is going to be alot more expensive than the 17's, the main reason i bought my 17's. i paid about 600 for tires and 700 for the wheels.. with 18's you're lookin at about $1600+2000 Firebird A4 black hardtop

I like the 18's myself...however, if I were to do it again I would step up into the ultra high dollar 19's....possibly even 20's. They look effing great but you really start to suffer in ride quality. Plus your side wall gets so thin that you can very easily bend a rim by hitting a pothole. Even with the 18's you really have to be careful when running a 2 piece billet wheel like mine. Cast wheels you generally don't have to worry about as much because the wheel is inherently stronger in the hoop (rim of the wheel)area. Plus if you bend a cast wheel...no big deal really because they are alot cheaper to replace. As for 17's....blah... only way I would consider it is if it had a smooth lip. Smooth lip wheels always appear larger than the standard step lip.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56
