  • What tires to go with?

Ok my pirellis are done for. I want to keep my current rims, Firehawks and I will go with new tires. The car is mostly a summer street car that won't see much rain either. It will go to the strip and I want it to hook better than a street tire.

So i was thinking nitto or bfg drag radials on the rear. Good treadlife, and good tradeoff of hook/everything.

I am a bit worried to go up to e/t streets as the car is mostly a street car and they might hook a bit too much for the 10 bolt.

275/40/17 is what the pirellis are i believe.

Ok so what about the front ones. What do you guys feel are good tires. I would like to go one step up performance wise than the pirellis but also dont want to spend a fortune. Any good ideas? I may do some auto-x and I just like all around performance.

if your worried about wear, i would stay away from MT's or BFG's DR's. I'd say Nitto for a better overall, but i've read that the BFG's are noticeably stickier, but of course wear a little more. Just really depends on how often you want to buy tires. If you dont mind getting a new set of rear tires every season, go with BFGs DR's IMO. If you don't want a DR, i hear those GS-D3's are probably the best. And if you just want some new decent street tires but dont want to spend a lot, i liked my Fuzion ZRi's.

Definatly do a DR in the back. Nitto if you plan on getting more than 8K out of a set driving daily. The fronts I would go with the Nitto street tire so they match if you go this route, if not then anyting will really work.

I think you should go with street tires and invest in a good clutch.

          because instead...

youre going to finish that clutch off immediately with a cam and DRs. it was marginal before. And then once you get the clutch replaced, your gonna be popping the ten bolt too. then on top of that theyre gonna wear out fast.

just some food for thought, sounds to me like a huge expense just to get a better launch.

Personally Ive never been too worried about getting a good launch, my car usually wins races in the long haul anyway. best launch modification is driver practice anyway that and the fact I can never resist to do one of these:

yeah i'm kinda with joel, you might want to stay away from DR's with a 10 bolt and a stock clutch, hell Sean (keegoridah) his stock clutch was slipping in 4th gear on the dyno when we were doing pulls

get a good summer tire and then like joel said, you might want to look into the rest of your drivetrain before you try launch'n with a sticky tire...this is pretty much why i've never been in the market for a DR until now that i have my 9" and a decent clutch and trans rebuild

              I agree with matts strategy.

im also gonna add that im kinda surprised i havent broke my 10 bolt yet even with street tires. a couple of times Ive dumped my spec 3 a little harder than I intended to, and when I say it bites, boy does it bite. The whole car seems to groan, mostly from the rear axle. I dont have a problem with hop or anything, but i swear the thing bucks under there initially under a good dump. Thats something your car isnt gonna do with a clutch like you have now, the slip is naturally forgiving. I dont think i would have any problem destroying my 10 bolt with street tires if i tried. Traction or no traction... you can still shock a drivetrain.

I really want to step it up a notch from street tires. I figure im gonna blow the rear anyways street tires or not so might as well get what I want. i hate not being able to launch the car at anything higher than an idle without spinning like crazy.

I think there are street tires that can meet your agenda. The way your car layed rubber in second and third when it was stock, leads me to believe that your pirelli's werent cutting it. Even with a clutch as bitey as mine I have a hard time getting rubber in second, let alone 3rd.

It's slipping even more than that now haha, stock = Junk

MT's for the track and Nittos for the street. BFG is that inbetween tire that hooks better than a nitto but only lasts like 4K miles.

FYI, there is a pic over on tech of a guy at the track with an M6, 18" C6 wheels ganking wheel at the track, yes on 18s all around.... BFG DR's in the rear....

Then buy some street tires and look into purchasing some drag wheels and run a slick, with a 5k clutchdump. That should take care of that pesky 10 bolt problem you speak of. I love A4's w/ a 10 bolt. 150,xxx miles and at least 40 low 1.6 60'' times and it's still ticking. ET Streets FTW

Don't think he's stock cubed but if he is, he surely isn't a cam only car.

the car johnny speaks of is a big cubed motor (i think in the guys post it's like a 450 or something retardedly huge. i remember it being some large odd ball size i'de never seen before, and like a 300 shot on it...the car ran a 10.89 i believe with the same rims as KeegRidah and a BFG DR 315/35-18 tire
