    Does this look normal?

    Been having very shaky steering at certain speeds, to the point that I was on the freeway once and it was downright scary feeling like I was going to lose control of the direction of the car. Have the front suspension out for shock replacement and have been inspecting all of the bushings. This is a 42k mile car so they look relatively good but it's still 13 years old. Anyway, the horizontal bushing on both front lower control arms looks like this. Is this normal or do the bushings need to be replaced?

    In case anyone is wondering, what is happening here is that it appears the rubber portion of the bushing is fully extended at the top and recessed at the bottom, as if it's installed unevenly. Just wondering if for some reason this is normal considering it's the same on both sides and the bushings otherwise look ok.

      It looks like the metal part is flush to the flange, like it should be, yes?

      Do you have excessive toe-out? You'll get great turn-in, but it can be downright terrifying above 40-50mph.

        Yes it is flush. I have no idea on the alignment specs. I'm running it as I bought it from the previous owner as I was waiting to lower the car (which I am currently doing) before getting another alignment done.

          Has it always done this or just started? Usually a vehicle doesn't just toe-out on it's own that badly. The Cav's did it when I replaced the entire front subframe, along with new control arms. And then again after months of a couple hundred pounds of car parts being in the back.

            It feels like it has progressively gotten worse over time, but I've only put less than 1k miles on it since I've owned it. I'm finding several little issues with this car that are keeping me from enjoying it. There is also a pretty decent clunk when the driver's side tire hits even a relatively small bump, but I did find that a caliper bolt was finger tight so I'm thinking that may be the cause of that.

              when you do get it aligned try Harold's Frame shop on Grand River in Novi. They're old school and know what they're doing.
              When in doubt, Whip it out !

                That's where I intend to take it. Either that or their redford location since it's closer to my shop.
