  • Please help mounting tires!!!

Hey everyone i went to go to discount tire the other day and they wanted to charge, an arm and a leg to mount a set of tires on a set of 18's. i was wondering if anyone works at a discount tire place or goes to school somewhere were they would be able to mount and balence these tires for me.

I am not looking for anyone to do a freebie for me (although it would be nice) but i am looking for someone to do it a lttile cheaper than discount tire. I am located in west bloomfield, waterford area. i will drive to drop them off if anyone can help

    Thanks in advance Dan

I saw a guide online once how to get tires on rims with a crowbar or something. Of course you can't balance them yourself but you can get em mounted.

You are probably going to want someone that knows what they are doing mount those for you since they are 18 inch and low profiles.

most places charge $15 per wheel so $60 for all 4, if you think that's bad, i got ass raped $50 a rim ($200 total!!) to get my tires mounted on my black rims, but that was with a hunter road force balance system, and they use plastic spoons so that there isn't a mark on my rims what so ever from mounting

Hunter road force balancing and match mounting are the only way to go, unless you have a V6 and drive slow.
If you're using the crowbar method, don't expect to have pretty chrome or polished rims anymore.
When having a shop do it, just don't let them use a air wrench to put the nuts on, or let the newest kid in the joint do it. Make sure you can watch them work.

For truck rims, large sidewalls (profile), just use the crowbar to flip one part of the bead over the rim lip, then use a large screwdriver or more to hold that part over the lip while you use the crowbar again about 1/4 to 1/3 the way around the wheel, and flip that over. then workl aroound some more until one whole bead is over the lip of the rim. Then do the same for the other bead of the tire (bringing it over the same lip of the rim as the first bead). make sense? using some grease around the lip can help, but clean that off before sealing, and replace with soapy water, leaving the soapy water in place.
