lt1 steering shaft replacement Q's

Got new outer tie rods on the Z last month and another alignment. Found the last bit of play is in my steering shaft/rag joint.

I'm curious if anyone has ever had to replace theirs and if there is an updated part? I'm going to replace mine this spring along with a few other things to finish off what's not been done since I've had the car. 206k now so I know it's beyond due, and from what I'm hearing having longtubes only wears it out faster due to the added heat.

Since I'm not seeing it on Autozones site, figured i'd see if anyone knows where to find one outside of the dealer and what it'll cost. I'd assume rock auto or something but I'm taking a small break from filing at work to write this up lol.

I'm 99% sure you're stuck trying to find a used piece. I don't think they make them new. A lot of people either buy a rag joint elimination kit, or install an LS1 steering shaft which doesn't have the rag joint. They both require a little bit of work but the LS1 shaft requires welding.

i can welb that's no problem. any links or info on the elim kit or the ls1 shaft install?

I did the LS1 version on my car.

you have to take part of it apart and reindex it (spin it xx degrees) for it to line up correctly but its 100% the best best method IMO.

If you dont have access to air tools, and a welder, get the rag joint eliminator kit.

I have air tools and can get a hold of a mig wilder fairly easy. What did the ls1 arm run you nate?

I did the LS1 shaft on my car. Highly recommend it, whole new car.

I read that guide yesterday as well, seems easy enough. Actually getting excited to finally finish up all the little odds and ends of my car sitting for so long. Spring time it's prep time for paint.
