  • Can not get strut bolt off!! Need help/ideas

Ok, here is a pic of both front struts(top obviously). I cannot get these damn nuts off, they're so corroded I cant even see a hex. tried pounding a socket onto them, doesn't work. the worst part is I need to save these struts. I'm selling them to Ben, Phoenixrising, so they can't be damaged.
Ben, if you read this, sorry bud but this is where I'm at with these. Once I get them separated, they're yours.
I know I'm not the only one who has ran into this, especially in MI. so what did you guys do???

Just ran into the same thing literally 1 hour ago.

Here's the deal - if they are anything like mine, the mount is fused to the shock anyway. Even after cutting the nuts off, the shock still wouldn't come out of the mount. I'll be ordering new mounts today. I actually had to cut the shock shaft on once just so I could harvest the dust boot, lower isolator, and metal spring perch for reuse on my bilsteins.

    So, I see two options:

    1) cut it out like I did, but chances are the mount is toast, and if you did manage to get it apart, you're probably going to end up messing up the mount cutting anyway (I did, but I also get impatient and I am sure that didn't help)
    2) Sell them as a complete set

I really don't see you separating them without collateral damage.

If any one has any used shock mounts on here, I'll take them off your hands. This is pretty much the conclusion I've come to, unless a miracle is performed and they come apart.

Auto parts stores have them. They are a common piece. They are always ruined.

I haven't ordered them yet. I am looking on RockAuto - Moogs are $45 a side, Delco is about $80 a side. I started a thread here a little while ago asking which to buy. I am leaning towards the Moogs.

If youre selling the complete struts to Ben, why are you trying to disassemble them?

too ccommon. when you install new put antiseize on the shaft inside the mount and threads. then fill the area around the nut with some grease

forgot about this thread... Joel, I wasn't selling the full strut to ben, I was going to reuse the mounts and isolators and what not. Either way, cars been done for two weeks. I have all the new KYB's on all four corners, and the sportlines as well. Handles 100 times better! Feels like a sports car again. I went ahead and bought new mounts, coil spring seats, and isolators. Suspension looks killer. I bead blasted then buffed the upper contol arms and repainted them. yeah and those stock struts were NEVER coming apart lol, so I did end up just giving it all to Ben.
