  • Spring Spacers

So as y'all know - the spohn long tube crossmember blows donkey dick with a lowered suspension. So I either have to go buy a new standard crossmember ($165+), have someone custom fabricate me a "straight" crossmember to remove the dip, or I need to raise my suspension. For less than $30 shipped, I'm really thinking about trying these spring spacers on Summit.... The thickness is only 1" so it'd counteract my Eibach lowering springs.

I don't go to the track - drag or road course, it's strictly a cruiser and car show queen. Does anyone have any experience using these spacers?

I found this thread on LS1Tech which sounds promising. For less than $30 it seems like a good shot...

Didnt Nick say he had a stock UMI crossmember he'd let you try/buy for cheap?

Jim (birdie2000) said he'd let me borrow his to see how much of a difference it'd make, but he wasn't willing to part with it. Nick has a UMI cross brace but I don't know if the UMI crossbrace is compatible with a spohn torque arm?

I have an older Spohn factory exhaust crossmember that I modified for aftermarket exhaust if you want to try it to see how it fits. Let me know.
When in doubt, Whip it out !

Used factory stock springs would do the same no? maybe around the same price or cheaper since so many people removed factory springs. Just a thought

I'm about 95% sure it will fit. Take some measurements of yours. I have one sitting right here. How far from the bolt holes until the edge of the bushing and how wide the bushing is.

Long torque arm or short? The reason why I was saying I don't think it'd work is all the UMI ones I found on Google Images search were for the long torque arm where the bracket is the one that also has the transmission mount on it. I have the short torque arm so the brace wouldn't be in the correct spot.

                Short.

Center of bolt hole to enge of the bushing is roughly 5 3/4 inches

Bushing itself is roughly 2 inches wide

Does that still work with the spherical rod end?

                      Yes

This is what the UMI crossmember looks like

That looks like it dips down just as much as the Spohn does.

They dont dip down any less than that.

2.5" to the bottom of that mounting plate

The non-longtube Spohn one doesn't have a dip at all, just a flat bar straight across. I'm fairly confident with a custom Y-pipe it'll work just fine with longtube headers. I managed to fit dual 2.5" pipes through the standard crossmember before, so I'd have to imagine a single 3" pipe would fit with a little creativity.

Like this (for those who haven't seen it):

Just noticed too, that $165 is without the loop. Add another $40 for the loop.
