Snow Tires, your expereience with them

hey guys.
It is almost that time of the year again where you either put away your f body or you put your stock wheels back on. The past few years haven't been that bad(snow wise) but... who knows what this year will hold.
Have any of you had any expereince with snow tires on your F-body? Please describe in detail. I need to decide if I should just buy 2 for the back and use my new all season BFGs in front or if i should buy a whole set. I have a open diff :thumbsdo:


I have 2 set of wheels. I was told driving a stick is a little trick in the snow.

I have 4 Yokohama Ice Guard IG10 tires that I put on my car when it goes to storage. They are 225 60 R16s I believe. They are studed tires that are designed for snow and ice. I used them a few times like 3 years ago when my jimmy died and i had to drive the Camaro. They worked well in 4+ inches of snow.

DEFINATELY get a set of 4 snows. The new snow tires are designed to be used on all 4 corners to help cornering and stopping as well as traction. I had bought a set of Blizzak WS50 snows for my 94 V6 Camaro but got divorced before winter and never drove the car in snow. I have used snows on all my other vehicles for the past 7 or 8 years. I've found a great snow tire that's cheap, lasts well and works great. It's made by Firestone and sold under the Winterforce name. You can get them at Tire Rack. 225/60/16's are about $66 a tire if I remember correctly. I was just looking at some new ones for my truck.

I got a set of some import brand from a tire wholesale place for $53 a piece. Good enough for 4 months a year!

i HAD some nice hankook winter tires on my bros old stock wheels, only a few months of winter on them and even then i barely drove. Then about a week ago someone stole them out of our barn , fortunately i have a winter beater dodge shadow to drive this year driving the bird waasnt bad at all last year I just had some weight in the back, it was an auto tho..

personally, i would recommend Michelins. I ran them a few years ago on my black LT1 M6. The advantage to a mud and snow tire is that i could drive them year round if need be (and i did when i had a blow out on my summer rubber). You can't really drive blizzaks in the heat. The Michelins were REALLY narrow, like a 215, which is what you want in the snow! Come to think of it, I still have these out in my shed on salad shooters lol.

I use to drive a lincoln mark8 year round - I absolutely luv'ed my Michelin artic alpines, also had a set that came with my mustang that I sold to a friend. He's used them the last 4 winters and also luv's them.

The brand I got is called Champiro, there winter tire series. I know they probably aren't as good as the higher priced stuff like Michilin but I am sure with 100lbs in the trunk they will be alot better than the all season tires I have now. You never know this winter might be mild like the one we had last year.
