  • Rim Questions!?!?!?!

Looking into some rims to run for a drag setup.

    Would these rims fit?

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-561-5461PS/ for the fronts.
    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-561-5862PS/ for the rears.

What size tire could I fit on 8s?

I am looking at Mickey Thompson ET Streets (not the radial).

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MTT-3752/ According to this the suggested rim size is 7.30in to 9.30in. So a 8in would be perfect for a 10.5 tire correct?

Since 10.5in is 266mm they are smaller than a 275 and will fit without issues correct?

Hm good to know they fit the front.

I plan on when I stop being a b*tch and pull the trigger and get a S60, but its going to be stock sized not narrowed.

that would be my first investment in a fbody. after 3 blown rears in my past it made me realize i did things the wrong way lol. smart would build weakest link then build motor. lol its not the fun way but owell

You dont want a 8 inch rim for the rear if that is what your talking about.

            What size then. A 10? Don't you need 7.5" backspace for a 10?

Can't really run a good tire on a 8 inch rim. I put 275's on mine and that was pushing it, I assume you'd want to run a 295 or bigger in back and you'd need at least a 9.5 wheel for that.

I don't plan on running radials on them. A 10.5in bias ply tire is 266mm wide and suggests a rim size of 7.3 to 9.3in.

the difference tho is a 15 vs a 17 inch rim. with a 15 you can get wider width due to more sidewall... the tires he picked will work perfect on those rims

A 10 inch rim would be ideal but an 8 inch rim will work. I run 275's on my 8 inch wheels. Next set of wheels will be 10's tho.

Now from my understanding to fit a 15in rim you need to grind the caliper fins, only certain rims will fit without doing this? I heard those rims require very little grinding.

I'm not sure of any grinding as I run a thirdgen rear brakes so 15s fit fine. I also think an 8" rim be fine with it.

I don't think the LT1 calipers require any grinding you should be fine with most wheels as as Mike said I'd recommend a 10" rim as well for a 10.5 tire.

Just to clarify.. backspace is the distance from the edge of the rim(backside or inside) to the plate where the lugs screw in correct? I just bought some Centerline's and the hopefully the backspace is good. They fit great on a G-body, but havent had the chance to install them, that happens tomorrow. The dude said they were pry like a 4-4.5" backspace, which is sounding like they will stick out some, but he didnt know how to measure and they tucked under his Regal t-type nicely. So give me the low-down on backspacing, thanks.

Backspace is from bead to axle mating face. I'm not up on 4th gen fitments but that backspace sounds wrong to me. 4th gens take a lot of backspace. How wide is the wheel?
