help upgrade suspension

I just did the founders set that you got for my third gen. I have heard that Spohn did a bit more research on his stuff, but this set has the best bang for the buck. Might consider welding the relocation bracket later if I race my car. They are a good set. I would also really recommend the subframe connectors. Especially if you have a t-top car. granted mine is an 82, but it was incredible how much rigidity I added when I installed my spohn connectors. They make a huge difference. I am on a tighter budget, but I went with the KYB gas adjust rear shocks (I have not purchased front struts yet). I already had the lowering springs. I think the only other thing you might want to look into is the bump steer kit. I have heard good things, but have never used them. Others might comment. Big thing with autocross is going to be tires. You will need good ones and they won't last long. The buddy I know that autocross' all the time buys a new set of four every year. Again, others here will have more experience with that ass well. Good luck, keep us posted on what you did and what your results turned out to be. What's a performance alignment Brian? And just placed an order threw founders got a strut tower brace, lca relocation brackets, lcas, and a panhand bar for $250 shipped to my door. Gonna wait it out for the thanksgiving umi sale on some subframe connectors and sway bars. The rest will come when I feel like not going ape shit on my bank account lol its nice to have some money in it for once!

Thanks for all the help guys saved me some money so far and steered me in the duty direction. Besides suspension I'm just going to prob do a power steering cooler and a grant steering wheel and run my all seasons until they get nargled up and then buy stickey tires and a 12 bolt but once all my parts r here ill throw up a build thread. As far as front control arms or anything should I look into the front besides sway bar? And what exactly does a bump steer kit do?

Bump Steer: As you lower your car (with springs) all, all the major components are placed at the wrong angle. The easiest to see are the rear lower control arms and panard bar. The lower control arms actually are moved from front higher than rear to rear higher than front on a 2" lower spring creating a wicked wheel hop situation. adjustable are good but getting the LCA relocation mounts are the best because it realigns the true front higher layout. Well this is true with your tie rod ends also. By using the originals it places the arms no longer parallel to the ground making the already have pressure on them while driving making the a lot less efficient like the LCAs. this kit allows you to realign the parallel setup and get them back to the right angle while on a lowered car. Watch the video on Spohn, he explains it even better than I. higher dollar part. Might be something to do later on your list.

Konis, Strano Springs, SFCs and some beefy sway bars. And negative camber as mentioned before.

Or coilovers.

Oh, and some sick tires. Low profile, and wide.

If you do more autocross and no street use some will recommend toe out to help turn in.

Wider is not always better. Some people like to having widest wheel per the tires recommendations (or narrowest tire per the wheels width) as your will get a better responce.

But like everything elese every tire will act differently and every driving style is different.

But sticky is good, and so is a stiff sidewall.

I emailed founders performance today about subframe connecters and sway bars and they emailed back saying they are in the process of coming up with some but prob not anything for purchase for a several months. So I might wait them out but not going to wait all winter and miss both umi sales.

Another vote for Strano. I opted to use Konis with the stock springs because I cared about ride quality, and also got a set of his sway bars. He helped with the shock settings and the thing rides great and handles pretty damn well.

I just put on UMI panhard adj. bar, 2-point SFC, and STRANO sway bars this year. I am happy with everything so far. I did not notice much with the SFC and I thought I would but my car is still very "new" and solid.

Little update not on suspension so much towards making it a auto x car I bought. Grant wheel and a status carbon fiber racing seat that I got a heck of a deal on. Woot for Christmas in what will b November when I go get my car and boxes and boxes of parts!

why go 22mm sway bar over the 32mm sway bar for the rear. bigger isnt always better but arnt we going for stiffness when taking hard corners?

I just did there LCA + pandered bar on car adjustable and LCA relocation brackets. I already have Spohn weld in subframe connectors. I got the Spohn trans mount for my t56 swap. As far as I can tell you will never go wrong with Spohn, but he isn't really the cheapest. My build is as low budget as I can get wither retaining quality. I opted for the founders due to price vs quality. I do think Spohn makes better adjustable LCA and canard (due to his unique ends) but I just can't afford them compared to founders. Spohn makes everything though. sub connectors and sway bars... torque arms too. I still run a stock torque are... I ran out of money at the time of that.

I also was looking at seats. Again, out of money for a while... unless I found something else to sell... hmm, I do now have a first born. Those always seem to be offered up for big money in the movies... You know, I really hope my wife never wonders on here to see what I am typing.

Nonetheless, let me know what you come up with, I would always head out next summer to do an event. Will have to pick up a good helmet. They don't let you play without one.
