  • Help with Shocks

So I want to replace my shocks. I was going to have them replaced while I was having the car worked on at the shop today. He told me a price with monroes and really could not afford a 1k bill (including the shocks and the work Im having done...damn labor is insane!)

So was looking at the parts I would need. And this is what I came up with from autozone/orielys... Which one would be a better choice? Not looking to spend a fortune. Narrowed it down to these two so don't suggest any others

Anyone around Lapeer or somewhere close by that has replaced the fronts before? I was told that the rears are pretty straightfoward but the front are a PITA. Wouldnt mind driving and paying $/beer/pizza..what ever

Im pretty sure I didnt miss anything else needed to replace the shocks???? (other than tools needed)

Why aren't you doing your shocks yourself. The front are struts aren't they?

The APT I live at, you cant work on your car..only battery problems are "allowed". Already have been giving a warning for swapping my airfilter for a K&N CAI set up.

Then drive down the street haha. I haven't touched the shocks on the FBody yet but struts are really easy. Unbolt, pull out, spring compress, take spring out put on new strut, and reinstall.

I would not use the gabriel brand for anything, go with the Monroes if those are your choices, and they are shocks on f-bodies all around. Just mounted in the springs on the front like a strut looks.

I would go with Bilstein shocks if I were you. For $409, you will get a much better shock than the Monroes, but the cost isn't much more. Fronts are not a big deal to do really, especially after you do the first one and fully understand it.

Are struts really that easy to do? No pulling ball joints or A-arms or anything? Just unbolt, compress spring, replace spring on new strut, then bolt it back up?

                    Used to own a Firebird.
