Anybody heard any warnings about petroleum distilates in tire shine?

As many of you know for an earlier thread I started this past week, I just put new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S/ Plus tires on my 2002 Camaro vert.

I went back to Costco tonight to get the 25 mile torque check on the lug nuts, and one of the techs told me to be careful about the type of tire shine I use, because if it contains petroleum distillates, it could shorten the life of the tire and void the warranty.

I've never heard of such a thing. Anybody else heard about this or can verify that it's true, or is the BS Meter going off the scale here?

I used a tire-shine a few years back that contained petroleum distillates. After about a year of use, my tires turned a nice shade of brown. I don't know if it shortened the life of the tire, but they looked like total sh*t. Since then, I make sure that I shine without petroleum distillates. As far as the warranty goes, it may be BS.

Any tire shine FTL.

I supose it looks good but I hate removing a wheel/tire only to have my hands covered in the black crap that doesn't come off easily
Plus some people put too much tire shine on their tire and it ends up all over the fender and quarter panel/bumper. When ever I get a car cleaning kit I give away the tire shine stuff.

I prefer to just use welsly bleach white and a scrub brush to keep the tire clean.
