  • Baby's Got New Shoes!

I'm really excited -- I finally got new tires on the '02 Camaro! I upgraded from the base V6 tire size to the Z28 size, and sprung for the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus at Costco.

I only drove about 5 miles on them before parking it in the driveway, but I can definitely declare that they are AWESOME! Vastly improved grip over the OEM tires, no pull on the steering wheel from road irregularities, superior balance, unbelievable lack of impact harshness, and rail-like handling when threading through slow traffic on I-75 and charging through the on-ramp to 696. They literally transform the car.

They cost a lot more than I really wanted to spend originally, but my personal belief is that you always want to buy the best tires you can get. They are the basis for your steering, traction, roadholding, and braking.

Can't wait to clean them up and give them a proper treatment of tire shine! Felt good to get back behind the wheel again, too!

Very nice. Im suprrised you say they dont pull as much. Wider tires tend to follow the road much more than a skinnier tire.

            10mm difference....(in sidewall width) 235s vs 245s. pretty minimal

Kevin, I wish more people would think like you. Like you said tires are the only thing contacting the road and it pisses me off when people drive around on bald tires! Its just not safe for the driver and other people on the road. Eventually they will hydroplane and cause an accident! I know tires are not cheap but if you crash... you still have to buy tires and fix the damage.

It's basically on hiatus until the salt mostly goes away. We'll see how much longer I can hold out!

Bet you were anxious to see me ditch those Eagles! The center tread was decent, but whoever had the car before me didn't pay attention to alignment.

Not sure whether it's the tread design or the compounding or a combination of both. The Eagle GTs I took off felt like a very hard tire. I think it was designed for mileage and not for performance. Or thay were just plain old!

Nice upgrade Kevin! My buddy put those on his Mustang and it also rides night and day difference over whatever they put on a 2005 Mustang.

Thanks! The car feels awesome now -- more like the way I remember my old 1985 IROC-Z being!

Thanks! For my next change, I have to decide if I want to go with clear lenses on my front turn signals, or if I want to keep my ambalamps!
