BIG Brakes on the cheap

so on my third gen i currently have c5 brakes up front (12.8in rotor) but i kept the camaro caliper (i just couldnt rock a caliper that says Corvette on a camaro) i maybe only have a few hundred miles on the setup it stops good but i've been talking with some people and i could do brembo's with a 14in rotor for a really decent price, but the only issue is min 18in rims .... so that means new rims too so heres the dilema (spelling?) should i sell the 17in's and the c5 brakes and go for the 14in brembos and 18's or keep what i have ... heres a pic of the car with the 17s and c5's, im going for that pro touring look

If you can afford it I would go 18's with the 14" brembos

Brembos if you can afford it. Also the vette calipers are much better than your current setup so if you don't go Brembo then upgrade to those.

the mainy difference between the camaro caliper and the vette caliper is the casting (pressure cast v. gravity cast) but i could bring my self to have it say corvette i was thinking of grinding it off and smoothing it out

Yea, definitely get the vette calipers, the camaro calipers are actually know to flex out under hard conditions which = less braking power and uneven pad wear. Get a grinder and 10 minutes of time and wack the "corvette" off of them.

Something I just thought of. Since you already went to the trouble to put the ls1 calipers on...

You need 18's for this, but its cheaper than buy brembos...
Get the front callipers off of a 06 CTS V
Then you can run the C6 rotor, 14in IIRC.

It all bolts up. The CTS V caliper is a 4 piston brembo thats also used on the viper and a few porches, comes loaded with pads and everything for $160ish a side.

yeh thats what i was thinking for the brembos on the cheap cts-v caliper and c6 z06 rotor, i could do the brakes for well under 500 but then getting 18's was the only thing that was making it a difficult choice

I have the 12" LS1 setup under my 18's currently, they stop the car fine but look tiny compared to the wheel. I plan on doing the C6Z06 14" set-up myself. I know the CTSV set-up is a little cheaper and has a better pad selection right now though.

what 18s do you have ur car right now ?

I have Bonspeed Huntington's. I know the the C6Z06 caliper is pretty chunky and am not sure it will clear my spokes.

do you have a staggered fit? one guy i seen had 18x9.5 with a 6in backspace all the way around and said he had no rubbing issues

Yes, mine are staggered. 8's in front 10's in rear....4.5bs front 6bs rear if memory serves me right.

Are the ZO6 rotors still cracking or did they fix that?

Where can you get the brembo calipers and pads for $320?

My chevelle has 11" disc but was thinking about upgrading to a 13 front disc set up as already have the rotors. What are the extra brackets and C5 calipers selling for?
Would it be silly to have 13"(or 14) brakes up front and 9 inch drums in back?
