  • rear lowering springs ??? help !!!

i got some suposed lowering springs (rear) from a guy on ebay..... when i got them they had #22077420 tag'd on them so i looked that # up.. and it said on a few forum sites that its a stock rear spring # so i email'd this guy and he said.... he order'd them from a gm dealer as lowering springs ??? not sure if i beleive him... he said they did lower the car.. but i want to know that before i tear apart my car and them find out they didnt when i get it all back together..

does anyone know the height of a stock spring vs. a lowering spring (rear) ... would i be able to tell from that ???

would like to know soon cuz he said i can send them back if i like but want to make sure before i do

all info would be a big help tks

Replacing the rear springs is actually pretty easy. The only bolts that need to be undone are the lower shock bolts. Then you need to lower the axle to unload the springs (becarefull not to pull the brake line) and the spings should come out easily.

But AFAIK there are no GM Springs that will lower a Car. The Factory available 1LE springs (SS and WS6) are dual rate and some what stiffer then the original springs But still maintain a similar ride height.
And any lowerinbg spring should be shorter then the stock springs when compared outside the car.

My advice would be to install them and see if you like them because it is such a simple swap. Also there is a such thinga as the hose mod that removes the upper spring isolator and replaces it with a section of heater hose wrapped around the top coil. This reduces ride height by approx 3/4"

(Note when replacing rear springs the Orientaion is very important. So make sure the lower pigtails of both springs face the front of the car.)

Also heres a good link with Spring information

where they suppose to be a certain brand? I dont think gm made a specific lowering spring, some gm springs for different applications may lower your car

he said in the listing that he thought they where eibach.. but then when i email's him about the gm # tagged on it.. he said that he bough them directly from a dealer.. now would a dealer get him aftermarket eibach springs???

i guess i would have to compare the hieght to my stock ones..
but them when i get front ones will it be hard to match height?? i want it looking good.
i know i shouldn't have bought them but they where 5.00 ... lol

The Billstien option that was available on SS's and Firehawks supposedly had Progressive Eibach Springs. But I don't believe they would have a GM part # as this was an SLP Option.
These are also a Specific Spring for SLP and have no corolation to the Eibach Sportlines or Pro Kits that are available.

If all you paid was $5, it's probably not worth the hassle trying to get your money back. But it sounds like the seller was full of BS. How much are you looking to lower the car? I would just cut the springs. Changing out the rear springs is an easy job.

Lowering springs will almost always worsen the ride of the car unless you use a quality shock. Some springs (Eibach Sportlines) lower the car but don't increase the spring rate enough and leads to the suspension riding on the bumpstops. this makes for a horrible ride. I suggest doing some research on springs and shocks before you make another purchase.
