installed new brakes... new problems.

just installed new rotors and pads. depressed pedal all the way a few times before i took it out to seat the pistons. get it on the road and i start hearing a skidding noise from both sides. it is rotational, and goes faster the higher the speed i travel. heres some pictures, hopefully they aren't damaged already.

before and after, less than 2 miles.

this scoring is identical on both sides. (front end)

haha what is the wrong way of installing them? i replaced every part, slide pins, new grease, chatter plates, tightened to exact torque specs. 23ft pds on slide pins and 74 ft pds on caliper brackets. rotors were pushed flat against hub and wheels mounted and torqued to 100ft pds.

Looks like a normal wear pattern for a gm. But they are probably dragging. Wow You torque brakes?
Take it apart and make sure everything is lubed up and the caliper piston moves.

Does it slow the car down by simply letting off the gas? If not its normal for brakes to "drag" a little bit. I mean hell drums aren't adjusted right unless there is some friction when you spin them.

i don't think it would from like 40mph, but i left it in neutral at 5mph and left it rolling, got out of the car to inspect it and it stopped itself within about 25 feet.

the driver side scoring is now starting to cover most of the disc which i think is correct, while the pass. side is only half still like pictured.

i read on an unrelated website it could be wheel bearing related? dunno if its worth the 200$ part to find out unless i know for sure.

Get your front end of the ground and shake it down. That's going to tell if you need a wheel bearing right there.

what do you mean by shake it down exactly ?

Get it off the ground and then grip the top and bottom of your wheel and try to tilt it without turning the wheel if that makes sense.

Just FYI, when wheel bearings go bad they do not necessarily wobble and shake around like that. I replaced 2 on Saturday that showed no signs other that they were kinda a ***** to turn.

Looking at your brakes, call me an idiot, but I dont see anything wrong with what you posted. They're brand new, drive it, wear the pads and rotors in. See what happens.

so nobody thinks the dragging will affect the pads or rotors? i'm 1. worried about the damaging the life of both and 2. overheating them because they are in constant contact while driving.
i have however noticed no negative braking issues.

side question, does messing around with the wheel like that throw off alignment because i must have moved mine around several times in all directions while doing the work.

there's a place up in Metamora that has wheel hub assemblies for about $75, with the sensor installed for abs. I'll check the name and edit this reply.
