I just posted this on fullthrottlev6 and decided to share it with my fbody family here.
Buying Wheels on Ebay, A Warning!
I have seen many of you talking about buying wheels on ebay and thought I'd provide some input to help your transition. If You do decide to buy, make sure the price sounds right.
1. I paid $400 for polished 18" ZO6's and am regretting it now. If you are paying upwards $1000 you should be alright. That is a legit price.
2. Check the sellers ebay rating. If they even have 1 or 2 negative ratings you should ask more questions. My guy had 100 ratings 2 negative.
3. Ask if the seller actually has the wheels in stock with center caps if included. My guy posts the stuff for sale and has to order it from somewhere else probably california. Here I thought I was better off buying from somebody in the same state, but no.
4. Buy from a legit seller like Discount Tire or the like.
5. Check to see if your seller is Squaretrade Certified.
6. Don't trust in Paypal to bail you out. They told me to ship them back at my cost (over $50) when I already paid to have them shipped to me ($130). The wheels only cost ($235) by themselves.
Here is my guy's auction, an example of a questionable auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8045699805&sspa gename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT
He claimed to be a wholesaler. He lied.
In the end, I waited almost 2 months to get what I paid for on day 1. I went through a massive amount of hassle and I only got half of the order. The guy never sent any center caps. Which in a polished finish, is not going to be easy to find or cheap. I am probably looking at about spending $150 for something that was to be included in the auction.
