  • Painted ZR1 refinishing in MI?

Hey guys, Gib Loudon (from WMCC) and I had talked about a place in MI that does some great work when it comes to refinishing wheels and I just can't seem to remember where it was. I have a set of 30th anniv SS wheels (17" ZR1's) that need to be refinished. Does anybody know what company this could be? Gib did mention that this company has done alot of Camaro wheels, specifically IROC wheels.

I just had a set of wheels done last week by Alloy Wheel Repair in Troy.

Did a fantastic job. Picked them up from where I work, sandblasted them, powdercoated to the correct GM color spec, machined back the exposed aluminum, and then powdercoated clear over the top.

Ask him about the white pain-in-the-ass Pontiac wheels.

Great info!! That is what I am looking for, I am not sure if we have anything like them here in WI but I have good things about a company over by you and this is probably them. I will have to give them a call.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge, sounds like I would like to have the same type of refinishing done as you did.

They charged me $125 a wheel, and picked them up and dropped them off to my door.

I need just the lips of my ZR1's redone... just where it was a clear coat over Al. is peeled and corrosion is starting

I'm debating what to do on those...

125 a wheel seems like a great deal.

I know there is a place in Grand Rapids but the name escapes me right now. They refinished one of my IROC wheels several years ago.....seems like it was right around $100.

Ahhh, I have a feeling Gib was talking about your car?? If you could, find out some time! $100 per wheel is not bad!

there is a place out by me in Fernadale MI called "RESTOCK" we do a lot of work with them. they do everything except chrome. they make old shitty rims look new again! we send a lot of stuff their way from my work. it's about $100 a rim, and they will pick stuff up sometimes too...we just sent a jeep to them last week. and i believe it was $395 for all 4 wheels...they looked brand new!

Wow, sounds like I have alot more available choices than I thought! Now I am going to have to just pick one and go with them. Since there is a good selection in MI, I am sure I could find one on this side of the pond? Well, keep the ideas rolling, I am sure this thread may help others too.

You might try asking some body shops who they use....or even your insurance company. Many times these wheels are fixed through insurance companies because they don't want to buy new wheels from the dealer$$$$$.
